COBA CONTRACT UPDATE
Dear COBA Members,
Last night, the Board of Tellers conducted the ratification vote tally for the tentativeagreement with the City of New York.
After completing the vote, 1,493 members voted no and 1,099 members voted yes.Approximately 400 ballots were not eligible to be counted. The remaining portion ofthe membership did not vote. As the president of The Correction Officers’ BenevolentAssociation, I take full responsibility for these results.
It was my hope, had the contract passed, to begin getting your retro checks in yourMay paycheck. That will no longer be possible. In addition to not receiving the wageincreases, the $5 million contribution to the Active Welfare Fund and the $5 millioncontribution to the Retiree Welfare fund will not happen. These contributions weregoing to be used to improve the optical, dental, and prescription drugs for you andyour families.
Contracts are voted upon on the totality of the deal as a whole, not individual benefits.
Unfortunately, this comes at a time when our city, state, and nation face a nationalrecession, millions of layoffs, cuts to city agencies, and financial uncertainty for anindefinite period of time.
We continue to fight the threats of the COVID-19 epidemic every day and will doeverything possible to keep you safe.
