School Structure and Classes for 2021 Next year we will have 19 classes across the school. To keep class sizes as small as possible, we have made the decision to run a combination of straight and multi-age classes for 2021. There will be 3 composite classes; J7 will be a Prep/1 composite, M17 will be a 3/4 composite and S19 will be a 5/6 composite. The remaining 16 classes will be single year level classes. We have 403 students enrolled for 2021. Staffing On the 4th December we said goodbye to Anna who has been cleaning the school for a number of years. She is returning to New Zealand to be with her family. Karine is taking on Anna’s duties. We also say goodbye to Sam Hartnett at the end of this term and wish her all the best for her future endeavours. We welcome back to the Coral Park family Adriana Grant, who returns from Beaconhills College and Emma Virgona and Veronica Butterfield who are both returning from family leave. We have also employed two new staff, Rebecca Mersin and Caitlin Bothwick, who will be taking on the Government’s new tutoring program duties in 2021. I am sure you will join me in welcoming them to Coral Park Primary School. Before and After school Care Unfortunately, due to very low numbers and increasing costs, OHSC are unable to continue in 2021 at Coral Park. This is unfortunate, however the low demand for care before and after school no longer makes it a viable option for our school. We thank Camp Australia and OHSC for the wonderful service they have provided over many years. Whole School Transition It has been terrific to see our students spend the day in their 2021 classrooms with their new teachers. The students all settled in well and enjoyed familiarising themselves with their new rooms and also took the opportunity to get to know their new teachers. Whole school transition gives students the chance to ask any questions they have about next year and helps alleviate any anxieties they may have about 2021. Our New Preps What a fabulous day for all our new Preps. This is unofficially their first day of school and we welcome them all to our wonderful school and look forward to getting to know them more in the new year. Stay Safe. Justin Thompson Principal

Getting kids to eat their lunch
Kids usually want to eat quickly so that they can play. Here are ideas to make it easy for them.
Keep it simple
Choose foods that are simple and easy to eat. Some children might not want to spend time on fiddly packaging or food that makes their hands sticky.
Make sure that containers seal well but can be opened easily – do a test at home. It might be that your child isn’t eating lunch because it’s hard to get at!
Keep it small and easy to handle
Cut bread into thin slices. Cut sandwiches into quarters to make them easier to manage. Use less rather than more sandwich filling. Go for small fruits like strawberries, blueberries and grapes. Cut larger fruits like oranges, watermelon and rockmelon
into pieces that your child can eat easily and quickly. But keep apples whole, so they don’t go brown.
Minimise mess
Avoid soggy sandwiches by keeping spreads to a minimum and removing seeds from tomatoes.
Drain juices from fruit and anything else that has liquid. Put food into reusable containers or wraps. If there’s no other choice, your child is more likely to eat the healthy food you’ve packed. So avoid putting in sweet treats like muesli bars and salty or fatty treats like packets of chips.
Check the food labels on any packaged foods you put into your child’s lunch
boxes. Healthy lunch box options are low in sugar, fat and salt.
The Skye Football & Netball Club are currently recruiting adults for next year. Training is based in Carrum Downs and netball is played at Dingley Reserve each week from April 2021. The football games are played in numerous local sporting facilities. Please contact the below number if interested, or ask the School Office to leave a message for Veronica (Grade 4 teacher), who is a member of the club.
