Construction: Photoshop
Editing the image for poster and magazine
The first stage of the Photoshop process was to sort the images I had in terms of which ones were good images and which ones were bad.
After I selected an image to experiment with, the first thing I did was crop it and resize because there was a really big background of the white wall and I wanted to focus on the image of the actress.
I then duplicated layer so that I could experiment with the image, but then if I wanted to restart from scratch, I could just easily delete the layer and I will be left with my original image.
After watching some YouTube tutorials, I learnt how to get rid of the background in order to put another background on. To do this, the first thing I had to do was use the quick selection tool to select the parts of
the image I wanted to keep.
After I clicked on ‘Refine Edge’ and then played around with the amount of feathering to ensure I got a smoother edge.
With the quick selection tool, I selected half the image so that I could experiment with different effects. I only selected half the image so that I could kind of see a before and after comparison.
I first experimented by clicking on the different tools such as ‘Sketch’ and then ‘Chrome’ to see what kind of effects I would get.
I also tried effects such as ‘Water paper’ and tried distorting the image found effects which could make the image look ghostly if I wanted to make it look ghostly for example to portray the genre of my film.
I also experimented with the smudge tool because I wanted to see what effect I could get with it. I found that the smudge tool was useful in merging the two halves of the image together so that there wasn’t a
sharp cut in the middle.
