trons Chairperson. I have ex-
perienced how much enthusiasm
and energy she is bringing to the
CIM program at NJIT. Finally,
congratulations to the CIM stu-
dents for starting the ACI-NJIT
Student Chapter. This chapter
will increase the in campus
awareness of current trends,
committees, and research in the
concrete industry.
The CIM program started at
NJIT on June 15th, 2006 when
industry representatives ap-
proached NJIT officials. There
was a need for broadly educated,
articulate graduates grounded in
basic math and science, who are
knowledgeable of concrete tech-
nology and techniques and are
able to manage people and sys-
tems and to promote products

On May 17, 2010, our CIM program
graduated one more senior , Mr. Lean Orama.
If that name sounds familiar, Leann is the
brother of Anlee Orama, who graduated last
spring. While they are brothers, and having
had the privilege of having both as students,
they are very different individuals.
While Anlee was rather reserved,
Lean has been the more outgoing student. A
Silvi scholar for the past 4 years, Lean is also
the current President of the NJIT Student Sen-
ate, having been a departmental representative
from the Engineering Technology Department
before moving up the ranks to be elected Presi-
dent of the group.

Are improving program advertising and distribu-
tion of materials and increase visitation by indus-
try to current students, including potential inter-
nal transfers. We are preparing an 8 ½ “ x 11”
sheet which have introduction and links to CIM
program, as well as photos of the main events and
activities the CIM students attend.
Are increasing outreach to local high schools and
county colleges with “student ambassadors” and
coordinated involvement with local patrons.
Are having CIM students attend national competi-
tions and sharing in conference activities (We will
have students attending NRMCA in Charlotte, NC
10-12 October, ICRI and ACI in Pittsburgh, PA
21-28 October and World of Concrete in Las Ve-
gas, NV 18-21 January).
Are Increasing the amount of field visits. We have
received some invitations to visit concrete plants,
centers and companies from Silvi, Sika, Essroc,
Rotondo Weirich etc and are working on arrang-
ing for these visits.
Are encouraging CIM students to attend all New
Jersey ACI activities to expose the students to top
concrete industry people in the area.
