This 38 week long project involved the construction of a new build two storey
Resource Centre for The British Red Cross. The steel frame structure was
constructed on land owned by the British Red Cross adjacent to their existing
offices. These offices remained in use throughout the construction phase and
were later sold in order to fund the construction of the new build.
The scheme is currently awaiting a BREEAM rating. BREEAM assessments
use recognised measure’s which are set against established benchmarks
to evaluate a buildings environmental performance across it’s specification,
design, construction and use. In order to achieve BREEAM several
environmental measures were put in place throughout the project. These
included the monitoring and reduction of electricity, water, C02 and waste
levels and the utilisation of sustainable construction materials such as Forest
Stewardship Council approved timber.
Now complete The Resource Centre will be used as offices and a first aid
training centre by the Red Cross. The ground floor of the building provides
a reception, training room, staff office and breakout room with a large open
plan office, meeting room and hot desk area on the first floor. Externally,
a new pedestrian walkway from the main road to the building was created
along with a car park and new boundary walls.
