From Our Board President
As we enter into 2015, I would like to take this opportunity to thank this past year’s board under the leadership of Mark Akerman and the outgoing board members,
Collins Fulcher, Dale Grimsley, Adam Perryman, Tommy Rice, Chuck Thrift, and Rex Truell. With the completion of the golf course renovation behind us now, Colonial Country Club is well positioned to continue growth and to continue being the best value in the area. We have had a small taste of how great the golf course is in the
Fall, and it is only going to get better as Spring comes along while the course begins to mature.
I want to welcome our new board members, Keith Dillon, Scott Nelson, Marty Payne, Chuck Wilfong, and Mike Smith. Committees are in place for the year and I
know all will serve with enthusiasm and in the best interest of our club and its future. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact the appropriate
committee chair listed in this newsletter. We would love to have even more member involvement in our committees.
Membership growth is the highest priority facing our club this year. Currently,
we have 358 total members. Two board members have agreed to co-chair CCC’s membership committee; Ray Smith and Keith Dillon are diligently working together to identify new and creative ways to grow our membership. All of us as members
play a key role in growing Colonial Country Club’s membership. Remember to bring friends and colleagues out to Colonial to show them all we have to offer and what a great club we have! There is no better way to grow than by our own membership. Our staff has created some wonderful opportunities to invite folks out to join us at
CCC with our Super Bowl Sunday celebration, Salsa lessons every Thursday in February, Valentines Day three course dinner, or when weather permits, a round of golf or tennis. Please make plans now to support these events as well as bringing
plenty of friends.
I look forward to seeing you and your friends at Colonial Country Club!

Hard to believe it is February! Before you know it
Summer will be here. Even though it has been
cold, we have had a lot of fun events at the Club
for everyone. We are always
coming up with great ideas to keep you coming
out to CCC. We are going to be offering Salsa
lessons every Thursday in February, so if you ever
wanted to learn how to Salsa dance, this is your
chance. Don’t forget to mark your
calendar for our Valentines Dinner; this is going to
be a nice romantic event.
We are going to be doing a Spring Membership
Drive which is a great time and opportunity for
someone looking to join the Club. Colonial has a
lot to offer and we are always striving to make it a
more fun place to be. If you know of anyone that
might be interested please have them give us a
call.
If you are looking for a place to hold an event, we
can absolutely help! Whether it is a
personal or business event, we can handle all your
needs.
Thanks for all your support,
David

For the very first time, Colonial Country Club will be welcoming our new High Point University Intern! Christine Sidor, a senior Human Relations Major at HPU, will be joining us for the next four months working with Holly Calvert in the event coordinating area. Christine is from Long Island, NY but has hopes to move down south to Raleigh when she graduates this upcoming May. She has always had a passion for event planning and is very much looking forward to working with us here at Colonial.
Hey Folks!! We here at Colonial are starting the month off right with a big Super Bowl party, thanks to Mr. Tony Hill! Come out and watch the biggest game of the year with all of your CCC family, while enjoying some free food and pulling for your favorite team. The bar will be open so grab a cold one, sit back, and enjoy a great party with no messy clean up afterward.
During the month of February we will try our best to keep you, the finest membership in all private clubs, in our hearts as we celebrate Valentine’s Day together. So bring your better half and enjoy a relaxing dinner for two while you reflect on why we have this special day!
All month long, we will be having plenty of reasons for you to come out and support your club. Although the weather has not been the greatest for golf, we in the kitchen are here for you, SIX DAYS A WEEK, to serve and give you the best food and value in the triad. Our Blue Plate Specials on Wednesday nights have been growing in popularity, being that it is a three course meal under $10. So come out, bring the whole family, and enjoy what we here at Colonial love to offer; good food, good times, and great people!
I always end my letters to you the same way, asking you to stop by and let us in the
kitchen be here for you. My Staff and I are here solely to serve and please you.. Our motto in
the kitchen is “IF THEY LEAVE WITH A SMILE, IT WAS WORTH OUR WHILE”. So come out
and let us prove our motto to you!!
Jeff Stilley, Executive Chef
The membership has blown me away with all the support and participation at the club during the month of January! Now that February is amongst us we certainly don’t want to stop there! We had a great turnout for the NFL playoffs and are very excited to watch the Super Bowl at our annual Super Bowl party hosted by Hill and Hovis Law Firm on Sunday, February 1
st. Come out and
support your favorite team and also have the chance to win a 50 inch Samsung flat screen, Smart TV!!! You can purchase your raffle tickets at the club—Stop in at the office or at the bar. CCC will be offering salsa lessons in the month of February given by Ben Braswell. If you’re like me and have always wanted to give salsa a shot, don’t miss this fun time with your significant other! It’s the perfect time to dance your way right into Valentine’s Day. The lessons will occur from 6-7pm every Thursday evening through the month of February! We will also have a fun night on March 20
th for you to come out and show off some of the new moves you have learned!
This year for Valentine’s Day, CCC will be offering a sweet heart dinner with entertainment by Thom Gill. If you haven’t made arrangements for that special “one” in your life, this is the perfect opportunity. Please call the club to hold your spot! CCC will have an intern with us from HPU through the month of April. If you haven’t had the chance to meet her, stop in the office and be sure to make Christine feel welcome!
We are always looking to give the membership a new experience and would love to have your feedback and ideas concerning events at the club! Please do not hesitate to stop in a share any ideas you may have. Our goal is to make “your” experience the best it can be! Thanks again for all the support and see you around the club! Through the month of January we have had many favorable
days for golf and I am hoping these continue through this
month. I am very happy with how the greens are progressing
through the Winter months and I can’t wait until Spring is here.
This month, we will be removing some dead limbs in the trees
to protect us from those falling during the year. Also, the golf
course maintenance staff will be trimming dead foliage around
the ponds to decrease the amount of algae that it forms.
Please help by repairing ball marks, raking bunkers and
keeping carts away from the greens and tee surface. Make sure
to fill divots throughout the entire golf course. These small
things impact everyone and this will help insure quality
conditions each and every time you play.
Thanks, John T. Dawson, GCS
and Birdie
Mike O’Briant Director of Golf
Members, 2015 looks to be one of the most exciting years in our
club’s history for golf. Primarily because we will get an entire playing
season on our newly renovated golf course. As good as we thought the
course was the past fall, it looks to get even better as the greens mature,
the bunker sand settles and the area of new sod grow in to become a
fairway. Plus, we will plant natural grasses in the bare areas and begin
the free plantings the architect recommended. These threes will
provide not only safety in areas (#2 Tee) but will add aesthetic and
strategic value to enhance the design features and playability of the
course.
We will start the new season off with a USCA Rules Seminar
conducted by Andy Priest of the Carolina Golf Association. This event
is open to all members and guests, plus golf professionals, high school,
and college players in the area. This service provided by the Carolina
Golf Association at no charge at all is a great way to brush up on your
golf knowledge. Be sure to come out Tuesday, March 10 at 5:30pm to
improve yourself!
Spring is just around the corner and with that all of our Winter
merchandise must be sold! Come by the golf shop to take advantage
of markdowns up to 60% off on some Winter clothing!
Winter “BloW out” Sale
Golf Reciprocal Policy We are fortunate to have a member of reciprocal clubs that afford us
an opportunity to play many other fine courses in our area. Please
remember that all arrangements for reciprocal play must be made
through the pro shop here at CCC. Do not call the club directly, we
will call and make the arrangements for you. Each club’s guest/
reciprocal policy is different so we must adhere to that in booking the
tee times. Thanks for your cooperation.

Clinic Schedule For February
Changes for 2015: Effective January 1st:
Guest Fees Adults will now be $4
Juniors will now be $3
IMPORTANT POLICY CHANGE
In order to insure that our assistants are properly compensated for performing over and above duties, please
note that effective January 1st, members will be expected to tip (compensate) a staff member, other than
the Director, who is asked to play in a non-club sponsored event. Example: three members would like to
have one of the staff (non-Director) join them for a doubles match.
That staff member will do so if scheduling permits, but they will be expected
to be compensated by the members that have made the request. The tip can
be made directly to the staff member, or charged to your account (split
between members is allowed). The minimum compensation will be $10/hour, though members can tip
more if desired. This policy change does not apply to club organized functions, such as Saturday Morning
Doubles, or tournaments.
