GAC is an 88-acre campus located northeast of Atlanta, and was established as a Christian, co-educational, college preparatory school in 1968. With 1,785 students enrolled in grades K3-12, GAC is comprised of students from 14 counties including the city of Atlanta with a diverse student body composed of African American 25%, Asian 11%, Caucasian 56%, Latino 4%, and Multi-racial 4%.
Of 156 faculty members, 73% hold a master’s degree or higher; 12 hold doctoral degrees. The teacher/student ratio is 1:13; the average senior high classroom is 18 students.
SCHOOL OVERVIEW
Three new study abroad programs are being offered. The study abroad trip and all preparations for it occur outside of the school day and incur an additional cost to the student. programs include: Science Study in Belize, Literature and Culture Study in London, England, and Social Science and Fine Arts Study in Paris, France.
INTERNATIONAL STUDIES
GAC requires each student to log at least 10 hours of service each year as a graduation requirement. Nearly 400 students annually participate in service and mission experiences in Atlanta, Arizona, California, and internationally, including twelve locations throughout Europe, Africa, Central America, and Mexico. Participation for most trips requires a minimum of 20 hours of cultural awareness training and preparation for service projects.
SERVICE
GAC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Southern Association of Independent Schools, and the National Christian School Association. GAC is also a member of the College Board, SACAC, NACAC, ACCIS, NAIS, GISA, and AAAIS.
ACCREDITATION
2015 AP SUMMARYAP students are required to take the exam in May. The following is a summary of all tests given in May 2015 at GAC resulting in an 81% overall pass rate.
Selective and competitive admission is based on the applicant’s academic record, SSAT, interviews, and personal recommendations. Students are admitted from all ethnic and religious backgrounds. All students are bound by the GAC Honor Code.
GAC offers 22 Advanced Placement (AP) classes and 21 Honors classes. Enrollment in AP and Honors courses is based on minimum PSAT scores, grades, and teacher recommendations. AP course enrollment is limited to 6: one during the sophomore year, two during the junior year, and three during the senior year – rare exceptions permitted.

ADMISSIONS
Greater Atlanta Christian operates on a two-semester calendar year. Each semester, comprised of three six-week sessions, culminates with a comprehensive final examination given in each class. The final exam may not count for more than 20% of the semester grade. Each academic course receives ½ Carnegie unit per semester.
