COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
1. Recognize technological innovations which are used to encroach on, replace or undermine the clinical judgment of RNs or which otherwise compromise the RN ability to care for or advocate for patients using the scientific nursing process model of care;
2. Identify any and all forms of workplace violence, including lateral violence, bullying and harassment by nurse executives, industry consultants and their champions in order to move the national assault teams ideological agenda that drives the deskilling, fragmentation, intensification, automation, digitization and robotization of RNs hands-on professional work;
3. Compare and contrast the difference between computerized “virtual” learning centers substituting for mentor and preceptor programs in violation of current validated and demonstrated state mandated legal competency standards;
4. Engage in persistent and sustainable collective advocacy mobilization campaigns to stop and/or control any restructuring scheme in violation of patient protection and nursing practice standards, including the CNA/NNOC Code of Ethics.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
For the last three decades the health care industry has engaged in aggres-sive clinical restructuring and de-skilling of the RN scope of practice, au-tonomy/independent judgment and advocacy role. This national assault on nursing practice and patient advocacy promotes the elimination of (1) the centrality of the RN role in the delivery of patient care through RN displacement and skill-degrading technologies; (2) the RN right to advocate in the exclusive interest of the patient without fear of retaliation; and (3) any, existing or proposed, safe staffing standard based on individual patient acuity with specific numerical ratios as a minimum.
The goal of the industry is for RNs to become accomplices to the destruction of the nursing profession including the art and science of nursing through the cooptation of industry promoted restructuring schemes enforced by nursing administration by any and all forms of workplace violence. CNA/NNOC must engage in aggressive and sus-tainable collective patient advocacy fight-back campaigns to resist any implementation of these schemes in violation of any laws, rules and regulation that were enacted or adopted to protect our patients and our profession.
