Ohio Chinese Festival – Ten years of Chinese Culture Celebration
Ohio Chinese Festival has had ten brilliant celebration events in Ohio’s capital city, Columbus, since
2008. This brand was initiated and organized by Ohio Chinese Culture Link (CCL) and Ohio Contemporary
Chinese School (OCCS), and jointly sponsored by Cleveland Contemporary Chinese School (CCCS) and
Greater Cincinnati Chinese School (GCCS). The goals of the event have been set as to promote traditional
Chinese culture, serve the needs of Chinese community, experience the colorful and authentic Chinese New
Year environment, enhance mutual understanding and exchange of different ethnic cultures, and create
diversified culture in the US. Ohio Chinese Festival has combined many culture event forms of Chinese spirit,
which are enjoyed by people of all ages. The basic setting of the celebration is a form of Chinese Fair,
including sport games, stage performance, food and tea ceremony, culture exhibitions, calligraph and
drawing displays, children’s carnival games, Chinese Visa service, dragon dance, Chinese Spelling Bee, and
more. Ohio Chinese Festival has become the biggest Chinese culture event in Ohio, attracting thousands of
people of various ethnic backgrounds each year.
Ohio Chinese Festival was initiated by Dr. Jianjun Wang, Honorary Chair of Chinese School Association in the
US (CSAUS) and the first chairman of CCL. Since the first year, this event has been supported by many of
individuals, organizations, vendors, local governments, school districts and Chinese consulate office.
Volunteers put countless effort before, during and after the event, with extraordinary spirit and energy.
Ohio Chinese Festival also featured many unique facets of colorful Chinese culture by introducing
different regions of China. Each year, there is a special theme in presenting its local flavor of culture –
Guizhou, Hubei, Beijing, Sichuan, Shandong and Jiangnan area. These special-events highlighted China’s rich
and diversified culture tradition.
After ten years of success, Ohio Chinese Festival will have a great leap forward – the Event will, for
the first time, be held out of Columbus, to the vibrant city Cleveland in 2018. Wish the 11th Ohio Chinese
Festival great success!

Greater Cincinnati Chinese School
Greater Cincinnati Chinese School (“GCCS”) was founded in July 1995. Its chartered name is Cincinnati
Contemporary Chinese School (“CCCS”). It joined Chinese School Association in the United States (“CSAUS”)
in the same year and became one of the earliest members in CSAUS.
GCCS is a non-profit organization staffed with 100% volunteers. Its mission is to teach Chinese
language and promote Chinese culture. In the past 20+ years, GCCS provided opportunities of learning
Chinese language and culture for people in Cincinnati and its surrounding areas. It promoted Chinese culture
and served as a bridge to connect the people with Chinese heritage and other ethnic groups.
With the commitment and dedication from the generations of volunteers, GCCS made extraordinary
contributions to the Chinese education in the Greater Cincinnati region. The number of student enrollment
increased dramatically from original 70+ students and 8 teachers to over 230 students and 23 teachers. There
are over 200 students graduated from our school. Jianyao Li, one of GCCS graduates, is a member of the
America Team who participated 6th Oversea Chinese Students Culture Contest. His team was placed No. 4 in
this world-wide competition. It is a significant achievement for Jianyao as much as it is for our school. We
are proud to have him as our student.
GCCS not only serves the students with Chinese heritage, it also provides services to students with other
culture background. There are over 400 non-heritage students attended or are attending our language classes.
The language proficiency for a few of them are at the similar level as their heritage counter parts.
In addition to the Chinese language education, GCCS also actively involved in the local community to
promote Chinese culture. Every year, we host our Chinese New Year Gala to celebrate rich culture and tradition
of China with families and friends from GCCS and other local organizations. Because of its impact, local TV
stations and newspaper had sent their crew on site to conduct interviews and make news clips.
As a grassroots organization, Greater Cincinnati Chinese School played a key role in contributing to the
culture diversity of the Greater Cincinnati region. It united the Chinese in the Tri-state area, promoted Chinese
culture, and built friendly relationship among organizations of Chinese, American and other cultures. We are
committed to our mission and resolved to continue our success story. We believe with the determination and
hard work of our volunteers, the future success of GCCS will be beyond our imagination.
