Circulatory System
Parts of The Circulatory System
• Heart
• Blood
• Blood Vessels
Heart
• It is a the size of our fist
• It is near the middle of our chest, slightly to the left
• Pumps blood all the time
Blood
• Transports digested food, oxygen, water and carbon dioxide
Blood Vessels
• Tubes where blood flow
Three types of Blood Vessels
• Arteries
• Veins
• Capillaries
Arteries
• Carry oxygen-rich blood from the heart to other parts of the body
• Red in colour
Veins
• Carry oxygen-poor blood from all the parts of our body to our heart
• Blue in colour
Capillaries
• Help blood to exchange materials with the cells of our body
• -Oxygen, digested food and water pass from the blood through the capillary walls and into the cells
• -Carbon Dioxide and waste materials produced by the cells pass through the capillary walls and into the blood
Heart Rate
• Our heart rate will increase when we are exercising as our heart need to pump blood to produce more energy.
• Our heart rate will also increase when we are having fever as our body temperature rises when we are having fever, so, it needs to be controlled to prevent overheating. To do so, our hearts beats faster in order to bring more blood to the capillaries in our skin so that heat can be released to the surrounding air to cool our body down.
