SCRIPTURE REFLECTION ANGELS
The English word “angel” comes from the Greek angelos, which means “messenger.” In the Hebrew Scriptures, with two exceptions, the Hebrew word for angel is malak and also means “messenger.
” Although “angel” nearly always applies to heavenly beings when used in the Bible, it occasionally applies to human messengers. The most significant angel is Gabriel, who appears to Daniel, Zachary and Mary. We
celebrate the feast of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael on September 29. On October 2 we celebrate the feast of our Guardian Angels, who watch over and safeguard all God’s creatures. “No evil shall befall you,
no affliction come near your tent, for God commands the angels to guard you in all your ways. With their hands they shall support you, lest you strike your foot against a stone” (Psalm 91:10–12).Text, Philip J. Sandstrom, STD © 2000, OCP. All rights reserved.
CHURCH HUMOR Kids in church.
A Sunday school teacher asked her children as they were on the way to church service,
‘And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?’ One bright little girl replied, ‘Because people are sleeping.’
One particular four-year old prayed, ‘And forgive us
our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets.’

GOOD SAMARITAN FUND (PARISH PENCE) We continue to assist the needy of the county on an increasing basis. Our fund is down to $32 as of this
week. Our next special collection for Parish Pence is scheduled for Jan. 2013. To avoid having to schedule a special collection between now and then, we have placed a good Samaritan Fund basket at the rear of the church to accept Parish Pence
donations. Please consider putting a small donation in it as you leave church.
This week we helped a family with their electric bill and one family with their gas bill. Last week we helped
three families with their electric bill.
