MEDICINE UPDATE-2016 CME-REPORT
A CME on MEDICINE UPDATE was conducted on 24th
June 2016 by Department of Medicine and Medical
Educational Unit, Institutional permission along with
Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR University permission was also
taken for conducting CME and it was credited with 10
points under category 2.Well known speakers were
invited to deliver the talk during the CME.

Dr.P.Gnanasekaran and Dr.KalavathyPonniraivan.

Welcome address was given by Dr.P.Gnanasekaran.

Presidential address was given by Dean Dr.Sukumaran
Annamalai, He highlighted the development in medical
field and stressed the importance of updating medical
knowledge.
Felicitation was done by Dr.V.Duraisamy and
GurudattaS.Pawar.

Final year student Shanmugapriya performed classical
dance Bharathanattiyam.
SCIENTIFIC SESSION:
10.00 AM DR.ARAVINDAKUMAR M.D.,D.M.,
Dr.Aravindakumar , Cardiologist, Kauvery Heart City,
Trichy gave a comprehensive talk on etiology , clinical
picture , ECG Manifestations , Medical and
Interventional Management of Acute coronary
Syndrome.
He highlighted the importance of diagnosing acute
coronary syndrome at the earliest and referring to
higher centre for intervention.

He gave a elaborative talk on ethics in medical
practice.He went on in detail about the various ethical
issues faced by him during his medical practice.
He enlightened the importance of practicing
ethical medicine and gave some ideas to implement
this. His speech was exhaustive but intellectual.
1.0 PM-DR.SRIDHARAN,MD.,DM.,
The next session was on hepatic encephalopathy by
our beloved Professor Dr.Sridharan.,MD.,DM.,
He started his talk by highlightening the incidence
of cirrhosis ad its complications. He gave in detail
about the clinical presentation of hepatic

encephalopathy & management strategies available for
prevention and and treatment of hepatic
encephalopathy.

2.35 PM
The next session was on the approach to acute kidney
injury.This topic was dealt by
Dr.S.P.SubramaniyamMD.,DM.,young dynamic
nephrologist of CMCH & RC.
He clearly explained the various causes and clinical
presentations of acute kidney injury.

He stressed upon the Urine, Plasma biomarkers in
early detection of acute kidney injury.
3.15 PM DR. MADHAN MOHAN
Assistant professor, pulmonologist dealt the
emergencies in respiratory medicine.
His topic mainly focussed on the treatment aspect of
acute severe asthma and acute exacerbation of COPD.
4.00PM- DR. PRABHU
Accident and emergency medicine, Assistant
ProfessorDr.Prabhu gave an excellent talk on basic and
advance life support. He highlighted each steps of life

support with videos and images. He quoted some
clinical situations and interacted with the students.
4.30 PM – Dr.C.ASHOK KUMAR MD
Dr.C.Ashok Kumar , MD., Professor of Medicine gave an
impressive talk on hyper and hypoglycemiccrisis.He
stressed the importance of diagnosing hyperglycemic
and hypoglycemic crisis at the earliest so that we can
prevent morbidity and mortality.
5.00 PM
The day was complete with a sense of gratification
filled the hall. Dr.K.Sivakumar,Registrar Dept. of

Medicine delivered the vote of thanks. An event to
remember and cherish.
The educational fest ended with the National Anthem.
