THE MYSTERY OF JESUS4th Healing Story - The Cleansing of a Leper
Mark 1:40-45 - A leper came to him [and kneeling down] begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.” The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean. Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once. Then he said to him, “See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.” The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere.
Luke 5:12-16 Now there was a man full of leprosy in one of the towns where he was; and when he saw Jesus, he fell prostrate, pleaded with him, and said, “Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I do will it. Be made clean.” And the leprosy left him immediately. Then he ordered him not to tell anyone, but “Go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.” The report about him spread all the more, and great crowds assembled to listen to him and to be cured of their ailments, but he would withdraw to deserted places to pray.
Matthew 8:2-4 And then a leper approached, did him homage, and said, “Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I will do it. Be made clean.” His leprosy was cleansed immediately. Then Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one, but go show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses prescribed;that will be proof for them.”

THE MYSTERY OF JESUS
A Man with a Withered HandMark 3:1-6 Again he entered the
synagogue. There was a man there
who had a withered hand. They
watched him closely to see if he
would cure him on the sabbath so
that they might accuse him. He
said to the man with the withered
hand, “Come up here before us.”
Then he said to them, “Is it lawful
to do good on the sabbath rather
than to do evil, to save life rather
than to destroy it?” But they
remained silent. Looking around
at them with anger and grieved at
their hardness of heart, he said to
the man, “Stretch out your hand.”
He stretched it out and his hand
was restored. The Pharisees went
out and immediately took counsel
with the Herodians against him to
put him to death.
Matthew 12:9-14 Moving on
from there, he went into their
synagogue. And behold, there
was a man there who had a
withered hand. They questioned
him, “Is it lawful to cure on the
sabbath?” so that they might
accuse him. He said to them,
“Which one of you who has a
sheep that falls into a pit on the
sabbath will not take hold of it
and lift it out? How much more
valuable a person is than a
sheep. So it is lawful to do good
on the sabbath.” Then he said to
the man, “Stretch out your
hand.” He stretched it out, and it
was restored as sound as the
other. But the Pharisees went
out and took counsel against him
to put him to death.
Luke 6:11 On another sabbath he went
into the synagogue and taught, and there
was a man there whose right hand was
withered. The scribes and the Pharisees
watched him closely to see if he would
cure on the sabbath so that they might
discover a reason to accuse him. But he
realized their intentions and said to the
man with the withered hand, “Come up
and stand before us.” And he rose and
stood there. Then Jesus said to them, “I
ask you, is it lawful to do good on the
Sabbath rather than to do evil, to save
life rather than to destroy it?” Looking
around at them all, he then said to him,
“Stretch out your hand.” He did so and
his hand was restored. But they became
enraged and discussed together what
they might do to Jesus.
THE MYSTERY OF JESUSThe Mercy of Jesus
Summary Statement to end the section
Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples. A large
number of people [followed] from Galilee and from Judea.
Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people
came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from
beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and
Sidon. He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him
because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him.
He had cured many and, as a result, those who had
diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. And
whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down
before him and shout, “You are the Son of God.” He
warned them sternly not to make him known.
