Let’s meet! Last month, I emailed you and asked if I could come to your place to meet with you, learn more about your business, and see how we could help you reach your goals. The response was overwhelming! I have met with quite a few of you, and I am inspired by your stories and in awe of what you do.
If we haven’t met yet, I would love to take 30 minutes of your time and visit with you. If you don’t have a brick and mortar office, you can visit with me at the Chamber, or one of the many coffee shops we have around town.
My goal when we meet is to make sure you’re getting everything you need from your chamber membership, and to see how we might better serve you – our member. I will also encourage you to get involved in some way, because that’s how you’re going to get the most out of your membership. You had an expectation when you joined the Chamber, and if we’re not meeting your ex-pectations, I want to know what we can do to change that.
And besides, I love hanging out with my friends, mentors and members. So….let’s meet!
All the best,
Greetings, chamber of commerce! While March might seem like a slow month for chamber events, believe me, there is a LOT going on behind the scenes this month. The next big event is Midlothian Marketplace (formerly known as the business expo), featuring a Taste of Midlothian on April 2. This will be my fifth year as a vendor at this event, because it’s so much fun, you get to meet a ton of people, and it’s mostly indoors (I don’t have to worry about my tent/hair/brochures blowing away). It is a great event that not only benefits the community, but highlights area businesses as well. In my very biased opinion, this event is the absolute best of the chamber of commerce! And this year, yours truly will be chairperson of the event.
On one hand, chairing Midlothian Marketplace saddens me a little, as I will delegate most of Legacy Dentistry’s participation to my very capable team. But it also excites me, as it gives me a chance to make a few changes, and help other businesses highlight just how wonderful they are. Make no mistake, the credit for most of the good ideas go to Cammy and our wonderful new Event Di-rector, Kim Kizer-Hays, but it’s still exciting to be a part of the process.
One big change will be the addition of a VIP experience. VIP visitors will pay a little more for tickets ($25), in order to shop an hour before everyone else. They will also be treated to a special goody bag, breakfast, and beverages. With all the retail vendors we have this year, I truly wish I could get a VIP ticket to enjoy that hour myself!
The other big change, that I think really rounds out the event, will be the workshops upstairs. Every hour, we will have different vendors provide free educational presentations, that highlight their business and provide visitors with yet another reason to stay awhile. The goal is not to give a 20 minute sales pitch, but to provide guests with information they can take home and use.
Midlothian Marketplace will be a place you can go with your girlfriends to shop and hang out, or a place you can bring your family for hours of fun and food! Oh, and by the way, there are still a few sponsorships left. Sponsors get a gift certificate at my practice (matching the amount of the sponsorship), so it’s a win-win-win for anybody who knows somebody who might need a dental checkup. And vendor booths are filling up fast! If you haven’t already, get your registration turned in quickly, to make sure you get the spot you want.
It’s going to be an amazing day! I can’t wait to see you there!

Community Leader SPOTLIGHT: Sissy Franklin, Manna House & Heaven’s Attic
As Executive Director of Manna House, I wear many hats. Never enough hours in the day. Through Manna House, I have been a part of changing lives for over 20 years. Manna assists our community with financial assistance, food assistance, and clothing. We like to take on any needs we are made aware of. There are huge pockets of poverty in Midlothian. We go directly into those pockets and meet clients where they are. Our goal for the last several years is to pour into our Senior Citizen and our children population.
Manna has a senior advocate that makes senior home visits every day. We check and make sure their surroundings are safe, hazard free, food in date and keep a list of their home repair needs as well as providing transportation for appointments they have. We spend time with each of our 120ish seniors, that come every month for food, on a regular basis. We love them to pieces. We have a quarterly "picnic" for them and entertain them, feed them, glean from them all kinds of knowledge, and help with senior issues they have....We love our seniors.
Kids are the absolute center of my heart. Last Summer we started a feeding program for any child that is hungry during the summer. Our goal in this program was to feed the kiddos that would not be eating without outside help. We were able to serve 3000 meals in 11 weeks. We also had all kinds of activities during the day for them and spoke Christ to them each day. They loved the day. We also put on a Back to School Bash every year. Hundreds of kiddos get school supplies, shots, hair cuts, and more. At Christmas we send out 3,000 to 4,000 angels, providing Christmas for lots of kiddos.
I love this community. Through my Chamber contacts, I am on many boards and committees. It is important to me that this community has many options and opportunities to attend functions of all kinds. I love to see people smile and enjoy community events.
I love my job. I can't imagine having this job anywhere else. Midlothian is an amazing community of caring, loving, concerned citizens. Any time I say "We" had an event....I am surly including all of you in that "We". I wouldn't even come to work if I didn't have so much community support. Thank you all for being a part of my earthly passion.
I just love people and like to see happiness. Sissy Franklin
