• Require action• Have a deadline – have a time
limit• Come with cost and hard work
(time, money, effort, sweat) but produce results
• Based on reality – accomplishable• Have a deadline• Change your life – abilities, skills• Have focus
WHY GOALS ARE IMPORTANT• Gives life purpose – improves your outlook on life• Show you and the world what you value• Helps you to move forward in a positive direction
• Gives you direction• We can have all the dreams in the world, but if we don’t act on
them, how will we get to where we want to go?• Long term vision and short term vision
• Helps stretch your comfort zone – turn the impossible into possible• Involves pushing past challenges and breaking barriers in order to

GOAL SETTING
A mental training technique that can be used to increase an individual’s (or a team’s) commitment towards achieving a personal goal
SMART GOALSS – Specific (Significant)• Clear and well defined to provide sufficient direction• Know what you’re trying to achieve• Show you the way – define precisely where you want to
end up
M – Measurable (Meaningful)• Precise amounts, dates
A – Attainable (Action-Oriented)• Realistic and challenging (raise the bar) – motivated by
