Dear Parishioners, It is hard to believe it is already the middle of January! Looking back on the Ad-vent Season, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your extreme gener-osity during this past holiday season. Since early November people have been step-ping up in record numbers to offer their time, talents, and treasures. People have helped with our Thanksgiving Meal, Christmas Meal, Community Meals, Giving Trees, Advent Trees, special collections, Christmas collection, and some very gener-ous year-end giving. People never cease to amaze me with their generosity. Please know I am very proud, humbled, and honored to lead this community. Because of you, we are able to make such a difference in so many people’s lives: physically, emo-tionally, and spiritually. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Tomorrow we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. He is quoted as saying, Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. As we continue to bring in 2021 I challenge all of us to be forces of Light and Love. I offer three examples of how we can do this:
Think of someone who you really “struggle” with. Perhaps it is a family member, neighbor, friend, co-worker, or even someone you don’t know directly. Lift them up in prayer and ask the Lord to bless them. Find an opportunity to drop them a note or a text and let them know something good you see in them. Everyone has something good about them!
Write to a lawmaker and share with them your hopes, dreams, and beliefs for how we can make this a better world that is focused on God’s Love and Light. Challenge them to not be afraid of standing up for what is right and true.
Choose to give people the benefit of the doubt. Choose to think the good about people and not the negative. Attitude can change everything and allow you to be that force of light and love.
It is also hard to believe, but Lent is just a few weeks away. As we begin the planning, I am hoping that we can have a very active Lent, with both in-person and virtual events, journeying towards Holy Week and Easter. I do believe we may be seeing the light at the end of the COVID tunnel! Make it a great week! See you in Church. Peace, Fr. John
