18th Sunday in Ordinary Time
More than any other of the evangelists, Luke is concerned about greed and materialism. In today’s Gospel we hear one of the parables of Jesus regarding greed. What does it profit us to hoard? The readings invite us to contemplate what we really need and what is too much. Each of us needs to discern this according to our consciences and circumstances. What are the riches that will last? Not material possessions, but love and relationships and particularly for Christians, love and care for the poor and vulnerable. This is the treasure that will last!

A donation letter is available to give to potential donors. We are asking everyone to start gathering donation items from individ-uals or businesses. A volunteer or volunteers are needed to chair/help with the live and/or silent auction booths. Raffle Plans are underway for the raffle. Watch the bulletin for more information. Monetary Donations Monetary Donations are always welcome and can be placed in an envelope and dropped in the collection basket at any Mass or mailed directly to the office (P.O. Box 99). Please note on the envelope if you want your donation to be applied to the meal, raffle, or auction to help defray the costs. Next Planning Meeting Watch the bulletin every week for updates. As plans evolve, Parishioners and Volunteers should begin thinking about what they can do to help make this fundraiser a bigger success than last year’s. Do you have an idea for another booth? Please con-tact Del Orozco, (713) 703-7614 for questions or for more in-formation.
August is the month of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Immaculate Conception is the belief Mary is free of original sin. The Catholic Church commits the month of August to the Im-maculate Heart of Mary. The Immaculate Heart speaks to the longing of the Blessed Virgin to convey all individuals to her Son. One way you can more closely align your life to the Im-maculate Heart of Mary is to wear the Miraculous Medal for the entire month. Wear it as an act of great devotion and a testimo-ny to the power of prayer.
