All are Welcome ...
Stewardship: Parishioner’s Answering God’s Call in Hospitality A widow encountered another loss recently. A parishioner, who is a contractor, is going out of his way to assist her with necessary household projects. Christian kindness...a helping hand.

The Welcome Desk Needs You! Does life keep you too busy to volunteer countless hours? Are you looking for a way to give back to Prince of Peace? Consider spending just a few short minutes welcoming new members of our parish. The Hospitality Pillar is in need of 5 volunteers to work the Welcome Desk in the gathering space once a month for 10-15 minutes following the 11:00 am Sunday Mass. Please contact Bridget Carter if you are interested: [email protected] or 205.441.8892.
A Word of Gratitude from Fr. Johnson Tharayil
As I reflect on my past year here, I stand before you with a grateful heart. Last June, I arrived in the U.S. for the first time. Unfamiliar with the land, the people, and the culture, I came to Prince of Peace Parish. Prince of Peace, with open arms, with doors wide open, welcomed me. I thank you for this welcome, for the support, for the laughs, and for your generous spirit, warmth and prayers. I have also been thankful to serve the people at the Parish school and Sunday school, Galleria Woods, Oaks Nursing Home and Children’s Hospital. Prince of Peace, its Pastor, Father Fallon, Father Holloway, Father Jose Luis, its staff, its parishioners, its openness, its community involvement, its activities...have all been a blessing for me during my first year in the U.S.. It is with both sadness and joyful anticipation that I stand before you. I will miss our daily or weekly interactions; yet I look forward to my new assignment. I welcome you all, yes, “All are Welcome!” I will hold you always in my heart and in my prayers. This experience, which I cherish, has enriched my life and I will go forth utilizing what I have experienced here in my future endeavor. For all of you have been a blessing to me and all that you have given me, I am forever grateful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. May God bless you all always!
With lots of love, Fr. Johnson
A Farewell Reception will be held on June 26

Court will reconsider death penalty cases
WASHINGTON, David G. Savage, Tribune News Service The Supreme Court said Monday (June 6, 2016) that it will reconsider two Texas death penalty cases and rule on whether evidence of racial bias and mental impairment calls for removing the defendants from death row. The cases will be heard in the court’s next term, which begins in the fall. Neither asks the justice to strike down the penalty, but they could set stricter limits on executions and the use of capital punishment. In one case, a man convicted of a 1980 shooting during a store robbery in Houston says he has a mild mental disability. The justices agreed to hear his claim that prosecutors and judges in Texas have ignored earlier rulings that barred executing mentally impaired inmates. The other case involves an African-American defendant who was sentenced to death after a jury was told that he could be especially dangerous in the future because of his race. The justices agreed to hear his claim that such racial bias is cause to set aside his death sentence. Last year, liberal Justices Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg said they now believe the death penalty system is so badly flawed, it is unconstitutional. There has been no sign that a majority agrees with them. (Birmingham News, June 8, 2016)

It strengthens the marital bond between spouses while achieving or avoiding a pregnancy with 98-99% efficacy. If interested, please contact Dr. Maria Meyers at [email protected] or 205.317.1499. You may also contact the parish office at 205.822.9125.
