Project:Kvaerner Masa-Yards is part of the joint shipyardmanagement company of Aker Kvaerner and Aker RGI.With 16 500 employees and a turnover of approximately2.5 billion Euro, Aker Kvaerner Yards is the largestEuropean shipbuilding company and the fourth largestworldwide.

Installation:Kvaerner Masa-Yards in Helsinki and Turku has beentrusting in Armaflex for five years now. Armaflex is the onlyelastomeric insulation material to be used on the coolingwater pipes of the air-conditioning system and on therefrigeration lines needed for storing food and coolingdrinking water on the luxury cruise ships. The shipyard in Helsinki uses only NH/Armaflex. The non-halogen insulation material is the only product to fulfil thehigh demands of CCL (Carnival Cruise Lines) and CostaCruises. NH/Armaflex is produced without the addition ofchlorides and bromides (i.e. without halogens). In the eventof a fire, potential problems of toxicity can therefore beruled out to the greatest possible extent. In order toeliminate potential weak points in the insulation aroundpipe hangers, the Armafix pipe hanger has also been usedsince 2001. This pipe hanger guarantees that no thermalbridging occurs between the pipe and hanger and preventscondensation and unnecessary energy losses.Matti Örnmark, who is responsible for insulation at theKvaerner shipyard in Helsinki, says: “We chose Armacellas our business partner not only because of its excellentproducts; the service is outstanding, too. The dimensioningof the insulation thicknesses, the requested certificates, training for insulators, technical seminars for the engineersof the shipping companies, immediate answers to technicalquestions and a very good delivery service through theFinnish wholesaler Onninen Oy - that all goes to make upour successful cooperation.”
