18 years of History
The institution was officially created on 7/4/2001.
It was founded by a group of executives of GKN Automotive and Dana Corporation (both companies were part of the same economic group at that time).
They embraced the idea of one GKN employee that dreamed to provide long term support to socially vulnerable people in order to help them bring their dreams into life.
In 2003, the institution started offering 2 hours per day of socio-educational activities to children and adolescents of the Rincão da Madalena community, in Gravataí/RS (Brazil).
In 2014, the institution implemented a 4-hours-per-day grid of socio-educational activities and started offering lunch daily.
The number of children and adolescents impacted during this time is around 1100. Together with their families and communities we can estimate around 4500 beneficiaries.
Regulatory requirements for social assistance organizations in Brazil have heavily increased since 2015. After a period of restructuring and professionalization, Casa dos Sonhos Foundation is fully compliant with all applicable laws and regulations.
In 2019, the institution signed a collaboration agreement with Gravataí City Hall that provides 1/3 of the financial resources necessary to support daily operations.
As the institution grows and matures, the (voluntary) management team is working to diversify sources of financial resources. In the very beginning GKN donation supported around 50% of operational expenses. It is around 15% now (it has been the same amount of Brazilian Reais for the last 10 years). It is proportionally reducing, but it is still very relevant regarding sustainability.
