Israeli baby is born to be wildAn Israeli family chose a creative way
to introduce their baby at his brit milah – and the video went viral on the web. The family put the baby inside a remote-controlled race car and drove it around the hall, between pillars of fireworks and next to drummers. The post also was extremely popular on 6No Bacon.com, with ereader comments like, “imagine the bar mitzvah!” and “It looks like the introductions before a basketball game. I suppose that’s appropriate, as they’re both pre-tipoff.”
David Arquette’s bar mitzvahNEW YORK – Actor David Arquette
became a man while visiting Israel to film a new show for the Travel Channel. Arquette, who was born to a Jewish mother but was not raised Jewish (his father converted to Islam), was at the Western Wall in Jerusalem attending another bar mitzvah ceremony when he was invited to have one himself, according to the Orthodox Jewish website Voz Is Neias. He decided to finally
have the rite in front of the sacred site. Arquette, who was in Israel to film Mile High, later tweeted, “I had my bar mitzvah today at the wall. Finally I’m a man.”
Natalie Portman’s treatNatalie Portman was celebrating
her 31st birthday recently at a vegan restaurant in Los Angeles with her 10-month-old baby Aleph, who could not stop crying. After failed attempts to calm him, Portman decided to take the food to go – and also to pay the bill for the surrounding tables – as a token of apology for the wailing child.
Shia LaBeouf’s nude clipShia LaBeouf showed his LaBeoufs on the Icelandic indie band’s Sigur Ros’ music video for the song “Four Pianos.” The clip with the actor in full-front nudity was directed by Israeli filmmaker Alma Har’el, who won the Best Documentary at the TriBeCa Film Festival for her 2011 documentary Bombay Beach. It also features a nude female model. A news release says the video depicts “a man and woman locked in a never-ending cycle of addiction and desire.”
Matisyahu’s newest lookThe Jewish reggae star is changing
his appearance at a pace that could put Lady Gaga to shame. In a video released to promote his recent single “Sunshine,” Matisyahu re-vealed blond hair and a T-shirt and no kippah, looking almost unrecog-nizable from his days as a Chasid. The video for was filmed over a three-day shoot in Israel.
Mazel tov to Drew BarrymoreThe popular Hollywood actress married
Will Kopelman, a Jewish art dealer and son of the CEO of Chanel, in a what was reported as a traditional Jewish ceremony performed by a rabbi under a “custom-made” chuppah. Barrymore wore a Chanel gown, naturally.
Sorkin working on Jobs movieThe man behind The Social Network
is moving from one tech guru to another. After telling the story of Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg (or, at least, Hollywood’s version of Zuckerberg), the popular writer Aaron Sorkin is moving on to the late Steve Jobs. Jobs may get better treatment, however. “I can’t judge this character,” Sorkin said during a web conference in California, explaining how it will be difficult to create the character of Steve Jobs. “He has to be, for me, a hero.”
The celebrity shivaA new movie is in the works that will
feature Jason Bateman, Zac Efron, Goldie Hawn and Leslie Mann as four Jewish siblings. The movie is about a Jewish family with a lot of baggage (surprise, surprise) that comes home to sit shiva for the deceased father. The family is trapped in the house for seven days, and all the skeletons are bared.
Bialik bails on Facebook Mayim Bialik, the actor behind
Blossom and Dr. Amy Fowler of Big Bang Theory, decided to quit Facebook after a controversial photo of her wearing a sheer shell under a sleeveless dress drew criticism from modesty-obsessed Jews. “I think it is really sad that social media has beaten me down, and I wish I was more resilient,” she wrote in a post on the Jewish parenting blog The Kveller. But don’t worry, she still has a presence on Twitter.
Family Guy Jewish momentsHere’s how Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane decided to try to convince Emmy judges to vote his show the best comedy of the year: He took out an ad calling them “bloated, overprivileged Brentwood Jews.” MacFarlane’s language should come as no surprise to regular viewers of Family Guy, which makes fun of, well, everyone.
