ACCA AFFILIATE / ULSTER BANK / DUBLIN
I graduated from University College Dublin in 2009 with a Bachelor of Commerce International with French. It was a requirement of my degree to spend a year in France and I got the opportunity to attend a business school in Paris which was a fantastic experience from a personal development point of view. While studying my degree I took a keen interest in accounting and I knew that it was an area in which I wanted to pursue a career.
I had carried out a lot of research on ACCA and was drawn by the number of potential opportunities it could create for me both in Ireland and abroad. The flexibility of the qualification was also a big attraction for me. ACCA offers two exam sittings a year and you can choose how many exams you want to sit at each. I was entitled to five exemptions based on my previous qualification and this meant that I only needed to sit nine exams to complete the qualification. On completing my exams in February 2014 I found out that I was second placed affiliate in Ireland and ninth worldwide which is an achievement I am very proud of.
I am currently working in Ulster Bank as a Finance Analyst on the decision support team. Ulster Bank and my colleagues have been extremely supportive throughout my studies and continue to offer all the help I need from a career development point of view. I really enjoy my role on this team which brings many challenges and learning opportunities on a daily basis.
I look forward to further opportunities which the ACCA qualification will continue to bring throughout my career while I work towards achieving my ACCA membership.

SENIOR CONSULTANT / DELOITTE / DUBLIN
I am a Senior Consultant within Deloitte’s Finance Transformation Team. My day to day activities can vary significantly depending on the project I am working on and this is one of the aspects of my role which I enjoy the most. The Finance Transformation team concentrates on delivering a diversified range of offerings all focused on improving the finance function within an organisation both operationally and strategically.
I graduated from The Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business in 2010 with an MSc in International Business having previously attained a BSc in International Business from Waterford Institute of Technology. My third level education had centred around the strategic side of business with very little in-depth accounting and finance modules. I wanted to strengthen my financial acumen while retaining the international dimension of my previous studies. The ACCA qualification provided me with a route to achieving both of these goals along with much more.
I chose ACCA because of its all-encompassing course content that allowed me to gain a solid foundation in all of the core business disciplines before going on to specialise in the area that was of the most interest to me. The qualification is internationally recognised and gives me the opportunity to work across both geographic locations and industry sectors.
I became an ACCA member upon receipt of my final exam results in February of 2014. It was difficult at times trying to juggle work and study but the flexibility of the ACCA exam structure combined with Deloitte’s focus on professional education helped me to achieve both my professional and academic goals. The number and quality of ACCA tuition providers located in Ireland was another factor that steered me towards choosing ACCA. The quality of the tuition available was also a factor that helped me to successfully pass all of my professional exams.
ACCA has provided me with a platform from which I can leverage all of the skills and knowledge gained while completing my qualification to further my career. I can now go places in my career that were not possible previously.

ACCA STUDENT / AUGENTIUS (UK) LTD / BELFAST
I studied a BSc in Accounting at University of Ulster, Jordanstown, graduating with a 2:1 in 2010. I completed some professional exams with another accountancy body, switching to ACCA when I entered my current job with Augentius (UK) Ltd.
I chose to study ACCA primarily because the qualification is recognised globally and I have no doubt that the strength of the qualification will open up more career opportunities in the future. The flexibility offered while studying the qualification was also a big selling point for me. In addition, ACCA recognised the previous accounting experience I had gained before registering with them.
I am at the beginning of my studies with ACCA and I sat my first exams in June 2014. Already I’ve received considerable support from my lecturers, colleagues in Augentius (UK) Ltd and ACCA staff.
The ACCA qualification is more flexible than other routes, allowing you to gain experience and to sit exams at your own pace. It is globally recognised and will certainly open doors in the future once I am qualified.
