• The Subject: the someone or something the sentence is about.
• The Predicate: tells (verbalizes) something about the subject.
A SUPER (SIMPLE) EXAMPLE

THE SUBJECT• SUPER POWER:
• The Subject has the power to be someone or something that a sentence is talking about.
• FINDING THE SUBJECT: • To find the subject of a sentence, ask
yourself: Who or What is the sentence talking about?
• The subject can take the form of: • A person• A place• A thing

2. The capital city is protected.
3. The time bomb is ticking.4. Greed is a powerful force.

• Watch out for an attack from that crumbly villain, The Fragment.
• Super Teamwork• Always works together with The
Predicate because they get their strengths and powers from working with each other.
THE PREDICATE
• SUPER POWERS: • The Predicate has the power to
verbalize a statement about the subject of a sentence.
• FINDING THE PREDICATE: • To find the predicate, ask yourself:

Predicate of the sentence.

• Watch out for an attack from that crumbly villain, The Fragment.
• Super Teamwork:• Always works together with The
Subject because they get their strengths and powers from working with each other.
• The Predicate always includes a verb. Verbs empower the predicate to express action or state-of-being.
THE FRAGMENT
• SUPER POWERS:• The Fragment sneaks into your
writing and makes your sentences crumble and fall apart, just like he does.
• If a sentence is missing either the subject or predicate, then it’s not really a sentence—it’s only a weak fragment.
THE FRAGMENTSuper Examples
Write the example and fix it by adding either a subject or a
predicate.
1. The Mole King an his legions.• The Mole King and his legions are
attacking.
2. Eating up the entire city.• Hipposaurus Rex is eating up the
entire city.
3. With his x-ray vision.• View Master spotted the bomb
with his x-ray vision.
STOPPING THE FRAGMENT:
• He is no match for the combined strength of The Subject and The Predicate. • If you don't want your
sentences to crumble and fall apart—never let The Fragment break up the Completion Team!
