Choice Board
Elementary Students K-2
At Raytown Quality Schools we believe students are more engaged in learning when they are able to demonstrate their learning in a variety
of ways. Our goal for the choice board is to provide students with rigorous learning opportunities; while also allowing for personalized
student voice and choice...even when school is not in session.
Week 5 Week 6
Beginning Sounds with
Furniture:
Touch a piece of furniture
or object in you home.
Say the objects name and
then say the beginning
sound. Do this 10 times.
For example:
Say “This is a table. It
starts with the sound /t/
Pick 2 different objects in
your home. Compare their
heights and weights
(longer/shorter,
heavier/lighter,
taller/shorter).
Observe the sun, moon
and stars over multiple
days (in a journal with
descriptions and
drawings). Describe the
differences in their
appearance or location
from day to day or week
to week.
Teach your stuffed animal,
doll, or pet the ABCs. Teach
them the letter names and
the letter sounds.
Challenge: write your sight
words and teach them how
to read and spell your sight
words.
Make shapes (square,
rectangle, oval, circle
and triangle) using
household items
(toothpicks, straws,
spoons, crayons, etc.).
Discuss ideas about why it
might be harder to see at
night or in a dark room
compared to in daylight
or a brightly lit room.
Look at a cereal box in
your kitchen. Find all the
words you can read OR
name the letters you can
identify. Read them to
someone in your house or
write them down on a
piece of paper.
Share 1 food item (cookie,
slice of bread, etc.) with a
family member. Practice
separating the food in
half (2 equal parts).
Try to figure out how
much water you use in a
day by using kitchen
measuring devices to
collect water when you
wash your hands and
brush your teeth.
Pick 2 ways to read a book
for 20 min each:
*with a flashlight
*In a silly voice
*under a fort you made
*outside in the sun
*with 5 or more stuffed
animals
Say a number and ask
your child to tell you the
number that’s 1 more or
1 less (or 10 more or 10
less).
Measure shadow patterns
every hour to see how
they change during the
day. Can you make a
specific kind of shadow
puppet (that is a
particular size and
shape)? How did you do
that?
Memory Game:
Make two sets of sight
words. Lay them out in
an array on a table or the
floor face down. Then
turn two cards to make a
match. If they don’t
match then try again.
Write numbers, counting
by 1s, 10s, 5s, or 2s.
Continue writing
numbers, skip counting
as far as you can go!
Make a list of light
sources you can find in
your house. How are
these light sources used?
Write about a light source
in your house and how it
helps you and your
family.
Read a book and
write your own 3
question quiz.
Practice using a ruler to
measure items around
your home (length of a
phone, width of a book)
in inches.
printable ruler
Move like an animal:
Think about how different
animals move, can you
move like they do? Move
your body like your
favorite or not so favorite
animals. (dogs, cats,
snakes, birds, elephants)

Enseña a tu peluche,
muñeca o mascota favorita
el abecedario. Enséñale los
nombres de las letras y los
sonidos de las letras.
Reto: Escribe tus palabras
sight words y enséñale a
leer y deletrear tus sight
words.
que has hecho
regla imprimible

Word Workout
Vocabulary
sort similar
Let’s look at this pile of blocks. How are these objects similar, or alike? That’s right! All are blocks. How are the blocks different? Correct! They have different colors and different shapes. Can you sort the blocks by color? For example, put all the yellow blocks in one pile. Great job. Now sort the blocks by shape. For example, put all the square blocks into one pile. Terrifi c! What other objects can we sort?
My Words to Know
High-Frequency Words: come, doesLet’s think of sentences using the words come and does. I will write the sentences. For example, Come to the table. Does a red block belong in this pile? Now let’s read the sentences together. Can you circle the words, come and does? Nice work!
Category Words: Opposites
hard/soft smooth/rough
Let’s play “The Opposite Game.” I will say a word and you say a word that has the opposite meaning. For example, the word brother is the opposite of sister. Are you ready?
inside (outside) man (woman)same (different) short (tall)smooth (rough) sun (moon)
Let’s make a list of these words. Can you think of words that are opposites? I’ll write them on our list. Let’s read our list of opposites together!
Phonics: long e Let’s play a rhyming game and think of words with the long e sound. What words rhyme with he? That’s right! Me, be, and we rhyme with the word he. Can you write me, be, and we? Terrifi c job!
