Algonquin Algonquin tribes
lived in small, one-family homes called wigwams
They could be a dome, cone, or rectangular shape
Iroquois The Iroquois lived
in a longhouse that included up to 12 families inside.
The longhouse was 50 to 100 feet long.
It included several rooms separated by animal skins.
Iroquois The Iroquois
villages had their own form of protection.
The longhouses were surrounded by a wooden fence called a palisade
Bartering The Native Americans
had no money. They would trade instead
They often used wampum, strings of shell beads for trading.
European settler wanted furs, and would give the tribes their superior weapons
