A Prayer for Social Justice Lord, please help me… To rise above my current challenges, To be patient yet resilient in affliction, To be inspired, and to inspire others (Adrian Pantonial)
Building Confidence and Resilience
Dear Parents, Resilience is the ability to experience success despite exposure to risk and adversity. Research has identified personal attributes as well as environmental components that facilitate resilience and can lead to success. Resilience is something as parents and the staff we need to be developing in all the children in our school.
This week we were very fortunate to have Georgina Manning run a parent session on building confidence and resilience in your child. Georgina has many years of experience working in schools supporting children and parents to reach effective social and emotional outcomes. It was wonderful to see her passion to help families find a balanced life with purpose and meaning.
Many parents commented on the useful strategies that were given to support our children becoming confident and resilient. A few examples of building these skills in child language include:
Let me carry my own bag to school.
If I forget something please don’t race home and get it for me – there is always tomorrow!
Please remember that at times I will have conflict with my friends – this is really normal and a
part of growing up. Sometimes I might just need to talk about it with you and get emotional
support.
Let me make some of my own lunch (with some guidance if I am making unhealthy choices)
Please allow me to make mistakes without upsetting you as I need to explore the world
myself with some guidance from you.
Please give me lots of time to just play each day (without technology) so I can relax, be
creative and build independence.
Georgina will continue to work with staff and children on building confidence and resilience. Watch out in future newsletters for more of Georgina’s tips on these very important skills. Together we can work towards building the necessary skills in our children so that they may have positive outcomes and meet with success. Regards Brian Martin Principal

Caremonkey Privacy and Security Clarification:
Further to the newsletter article last week I wish to clarify the location of the Caremonkey’s data storage.
This response is from Troy Westley (CEO CareMonkey)
“Our data is definitely stored in Australia and always will be for our Australian customers. We mention that in our security statement on our website (but it could be a bit hard to find): https://www.caremonkey.com/site/security
We utilise Amazon.com servers and these are hosted in Sydney...as is our public website.”
Please feel free to contact the school office, Jan Morice or myself if you have any further questions. You can also visit the CareMonkey website for more information: www.caremonkey.com. I look forward to using this product with you to assist the communication process between home and school.
Regards Brian Martin Principal

HOMEWORK AT SACRED HEART (as per last newsletter- now with link to the survey below) As a result of the Parent Forum earlier this year and from discussions with the School Education Board Homework Committee, we are reviewing our Homework Policy. You will receive a link next week via email to Survey Monkey, an online survey, the survey questions will be sent to parents and teachers. Students in Levels 3 – 6 will also fill in the survey at school. Your answers will go ANONYMOUSLY into a database along with those of other parents, teachers and students. You will not be identified from the results, therefore your responses remain entirely confidential. We do encourage you to complete this survey, as this is your chance to participate and to have a say in the decision making process at Sacred Heart. It is important to have as many parents as possible complete the survey, as this helps give a wider perspective on how people feel about homework, which in turn helps us write a policy that reflects the current thinking in our school community. A committee consisting of parents, staff and students will write a new homework policy. The results of this survey will directly impact on the homework policy direction. If you are interested in being part of this committee then please send me an email at [email protected] If you are unable to complete this survey on line please contact the school and I will arrange a hard copy for you.
The link to SURVEY MONKEY is….. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/3VC5CN6
Thanking you in anticipation
Jan Morice
Deputy Principal School Improvement Survey
Sixty parents were randomly selected last week to represent our school community in completing our annual survey for parents. The results of the survey will become part of the school’s ongoing review data. This will give the school and families feedback on how we are going and what is required in future to ensure that our students are learning to their full potential. The results also assist the school in making decisions that impact on the programs, policies and future directions. The survey procedure has been used successfully in a range of other public and private sector organisations and has been found to be the best way of assessing change in schools. All staff as well as students in Years 5-6 will also complete a survey. I strongly encourage the parents selected to complete the survey promptly as surveys received after the cut-off date cannot be included in the school data. All surveys either need to be returned to the school office in the sealed envelope or completed online by no later than Friday 22 August. Most parents will have received instructions for an online version of the survey. Some families will have received a copy in a language other than English. In either case, if you would prefer a paper English version of the survey, please see the school office.
If you have any questions about the survey please do not hesitate to contact either Jan Morice (Deputy Principal) or myself. Thank you for your assistance in completing this survey. Your results are important to us in making Sacred Heart School the best school place for learning for all our students. Regards Brian Martin Principal
