The Mentoring Process
• PMI-SAC: hands-off approach, limited structure, heavy lifting is done
• Mentors: make a difference, revitalization, opportunity to learn from a protégé, earn PDUs (training and mentoring)
• Protégés: receive information and advice, be recognized in a work environment, someone to bounce ideas off, different perspectives, PDUs (training and mentor process)
• Recommended 2-4 hours per month
• In person, email, phone, Webex

Lessons Learned
• The Board must be fully behind the undertaking, large commitment in terms of budget, effort, and reputation
• Participants must be fully committed to the program– Time commitment– Commitment to partner, goals– MUST attend the training sessions
• Matching on paper misses personality issues• Communicate and reward• Gather feedback and act upon good suggestions• Mentorship Discussion Board• Facilitate Distant Mentorship
– E.g. Skype, or some type of VOIP communication means.
