“The capacity to learn is a gift. The ability to learn is a skill. The willingness to learn is a choice.”
- Brian Herbert
1st DECEMBER 2014
We have just a few days left before we bid adieu to 2014. All of us would cer-
tainly have had a variety of experiences and several ups and downs this last year.
The New Year is normally a time to take stock of personal achievements and goals,
and to plan ahead for the future. Interestingly, we tend to overlook professional goals and
plans at this time, as we are used to thinking in terms of financial years for work. However,
investing a little time and thought at this time i.e. the ending of Q3, can reap rich rewards
at the close of Q4 and the financial year.
A financing organization’s focus areas are sourcing and collections. Business teams
can look at ways to bring in new customers into the fold, thus ensuring that the portfolio
has a healthy mix of old and new customers at all times. For recovery teams, this is the
perfect time to take stock of performance and identify areas that need more work. This will
ensure that the teams work effectively and efficiently for the final quarter of the business
year.
We are confident that SCUFians will take the initiative to
put their best foot forward and start 2015 on a positive note!
As 2014 comes to a close

We report with the utmost sorrow the sad demise of Ankit Sharma, a member
of the Field Investigation team at Saharanpur, U.P. Ankit passed away in a motorbike
accident in October. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with Ankit’s family
and loved ones at this time.
Many of our colleagues use two wheelers as a means of commuting as well
as for work-related purposes. We take this opportunity to emphasize the importance
of insurance for two wheelers. What compounded the tragedy in Ankit’s case was
that he had neglected to renew his vehicle insurance policy which had expired in
April this year. In this lies a cautionary message for all of us at Shriram City. Please
make absolutely sure at all times that your vehicle is insured, and that the insurance
policy is valid. Vehicle insurance provides protection against unforeseen situations
(for instance, accidents) involving possible damage to the automobile. In any case, it
is illegal to ride a two wheeler without a valid insurance policy.
Most two wheeler insurance policies are sold with a personal accident
insurance cover. This makes the owner eligible to claim compensation from the insur-
ance provider in instances of accidents whilst riding the vehicle.

Indian cities are seeing a tremendous growth in the number of vehicles on the
roads. This has increased the incidence of traffic and, consequently, mishaps and
accidents. Sometimes, accidents due to someone else’s negligence may cost you
dearly by way of repairs for damages. Vehicle insurance helps in such exigencies.
Do yourself and your family a favor – ensure that your two wheeler and you
are covered by adequate vehicle insurance along with personal accident cover to
cover any emergency situations in the future. The need for insurance takes on even
greater importance if you happen to be the sole bread-winner for your family.
We are sure that you would have received the email from Shriram City
regarding the Whistleblower and Vigil Mechanism Policy of the company.
Please take the time to acquaint yourselves with the provisions and features of
the policy. It is necessary that all employees be aware of this so that Shriram City
can be alerted to possible issues and situations that may require investigation and
corrective action.
The policy document and hotline numbers are available on the Shriram City
website www.shriramcity.in for your reference.

One fine day, a bus driver was driving along his usual route. No problems for the
first few stops - a few people got on, a few got off, and things went generally
well.
At the next stop, however, a big hulk of a guy got on. Six feet five
inches, built like a wrestler, with huge, strong arms hanging down
to the ground. He glared at the driver and said, "Big John doesn't
pay!" and sat down at the back.
Well, the driver was five feet three, thin, and a rather mild person. So naturally,
he didn't argue with Big John, but he wasn't happy about it either. The next day
the same thing happened - Big John got on again, made a show of refusing to
pay, and sat down. And the next day, and the next.
This grated on the bus driver, who started losing sleep over the way Big John was
taking advantage of him. Finally he could stand it no longer. He signed up for
body building courses, karate, judo, and all that good stuff. By the end of the
summer, he had become quite strong; what's more, he felt really good about
himself.
The next Monday, when Big John once again got on the bus and said, "Big John
doesn't pay!" The driver stood up, glared back at the passenger, and screamed,
"And why not?"
With a surprised look on his face, Big John replied, "Big John has a bus pass."
