D irector’s Report
Dear Parents and Members of the Carranballac College Community
STAFFING:
I would like to confirm two staff changes that have been put in place in recent weeks as a result of staff being on
leave. Congratulations to Ros Myors who will be Acting Campus Principal at Boardwalk. Thank you and congratula-
tions to Belinda Grieve and Jenny Kompa who are sharing the Acting Assistant Principal (middle years) role at Ja-
mieson Way.
Parents and Friends:
Our Parents and Friends have a busy schedule at present with A MOVIE NIGHT this Friday at Boardwalk in the
GYM: Mr Peabody and Sherman will be on the big screen.
Preparations are well underway for next term with a College disco and TRIVIA night being planned.
Our P & F are always looking for more team members. You do not require any expertise, just a willingness to sup-
port the College in pursuing improvements for our students. The next meeting is this Thursday night at 7.00pm at
the Boardwalk Campus in the staffroom. This week the P & F will be working through their funding priorities as well
as making final preparations for Friday night.
School Council:
Next Tuesday evening we have our regular School Council meeting for the College. As family members of the Col-
lege community I would like to encourage you to contribute your thoughts and ideas for Council consideration.
Please take the time to send us an email so that Council can process your contributions.
NAPLAN:
Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students undertook NAPLAN testing recently. I would like to thank all staff involved in making
sure the testing process gave full consideration to the differing needs of our students. This testing is taken very se-
riously and involves the strict following of National guidelines which we adhere to stringently. Parents will have ac-
cess to their children’s results later in the year at which point I will provide an outline of the importance of the
NAPLAN results and where they fit into the overall assessment of your child.
Pre Service Teachers:
We are extremely fortunate to have staff at the College who are prepared to support the professional growth of
teacher’s in training (pre service teachers). Furthermore we are also pleased to be involved with Victoria University
in a Site Based Teacher education program which is linked to Point Cook Senior College and Point Cook P to 9. Cur-
rently we have 20 pre service teachers ending their four week placement. Next week they will revert back to their
usual two days per week on site – one day (Tuesday) in their designated classroom and another on site (Thursday)
undertaking their professional learning. The benefits are reciprocal in that our students are supported by their ex-
pertise and involvement and they benefit from the authentic experience of being at the ‘chalkface’ on a regular as
well as extended basis. Recently one attended our year 8 camp in support of the program – thank you Josh. A num-
ber supported our Athletics event at Newport Athletics track. Presently they are also involved in College based pro-
gram development (Applied Curriculum Projects) on: Student leadership / Wakakirri / Numeracy support / SWIRL
language program and Early Years sport program. The benefits of this partnership are vast. Please make them feel
welcome if you have a chance to.
Quotation:
“I think music and the arts should be core subjects in our nation’s schools. There is absolutely no conflict between
the expansion of our fine arts programs, our music programs, and focus on other academic programs.”
Rod Paige, U.S. Secretary of Education.
My sentiments exactly.
Have a wonderful fortnight.

B oardwalk School Report
I am enjoying another week as Acting Principal; work-ing with our talented teachers and getting to know many wonderful students and their families. Our highlight this week will be the Boardwalk year 3-6 Athletics day this Friday at the Newport Athletics track. This annual event is capably organised by Carolyn Huell who has an army of willing helpers. A big group of year 9 leaders will support students at each sporting activity. Our parent helpers work with students to assist in su-pervising, record keeping and marshalling. PE trained pre-service teachers will learn much from working with Carolyn to deliver this huge, logistic event. If you can drop in, I'm sure you will be impressed with the enthu-siasm and delight our students show in this great day. Congratulations to our Year 9 Badminton players who competed in the Hobson’s Bay Division Badminton Competition on Friday 20 May at the Altona Badminton Centre where they were placed 2nd. A great effort by the team. Our Year 7-9 Cross-Country runners will be competing at Cherry Lake in Altona on Thursday. Good luck! The Year 7 Boys Soccer team and Year 8 Netball team will be competing in the Hobson’s Bay Sport competi-tion against neighbouring schools. Good luck to them also. We certainly have many outstanding sporting opportu-nities for students at our college. As the winter weather has settled in, I would remind families about the correct college uniform. Black jackets are not part of our uniform. PE uniform is only to be worn on days when your child has Sport or PE. This uniform can include navy tracksuit pants and navy spray jacket. PSW are in the process of stocking winter jackets and pants. On all other days whole college uni-form is to be worn. This includes black, leather lace up shoes. A further reminder that school begins at 8.45am sharp. Some of our students are missing valuable instructional teaching time at the start of the day. These amounts of time can add up to significant learning opportunities being lost. Please contact the office if your child is absent or delayed.

J amieson Way School Report
Congratulations to our amazing year 8 students who took on every challenge presented to them at our recent Year 8 camp. Three days of incredible outdoor adventure experiences could not slow them down. Respectful, reliable, responsible were the words our staff were using to describe our students. We are proud of these students and their achievements. Thank you to our staff for their energy and enthusiasm to support the devel-opment and learning of our students. Our camp-ing program has been reinvigorated this year by Mr Henric Beiers, with great consideration given to student input, exciting challenges and personal development. Some photos from our programs this year are now on display in the library foyer. I would like to acknowledge the strong leadership skills being shown by our student leaders at as-sembly. Year Level Leaders, House Captains and Guardians all have significant roles at assembly and they take great pride in their contribution to this community gathering. The leadership skills of our older students are also strengthened in our Buddies program. Our Year 9 students are being encouraged and supported by the Buddies teach-ers to lead activities within the Buddies session. Our Year 8 students have a significant role as Buddy Bus 'drivers' leading and guiding our Foun-dation and Year 1 students to their Buddy groups and back to their classrooms at the end of the session. Our Year 9 Level Leaders, Angie and Na-than, have the added responsibility of making the Buddies announcements over the public address system. Our community can be proud of the re-sponsibility being demonstrated by our students. Please reinforce road safety with your child with the wet weather beginning. Extra care is needed by ALL around our school on rainy days. The Premier's Reading Challenge is up and run-ning......... Read, read, read....... Enjoy your child/ children this week!

Kids Teaching Kids
Kids Teaching Kids is a program whereby all students at the College
celebrate Science Week each year. Each class invites another class to
attend a workshop, performance or activity which is based around
environmental science.
We celebrate Science Week in Kids Teaching Kids Week from Monday 5 September to Friday 9 September.
The College also hosts the KTK Western Region Conference on site during that week whereby other schools join us and take part in workshops. In 2016, Year 7s will assist with organisation at Boardwalk Campus on Wednesday 7 September and Year 5/6 classes conduct the second day of that conference at Jamieson Way Campus, on Thursday 8 September. Finally a selected group of students will repre-sent us at the Melbourne Water KTK Conference on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 October at Melbourne University.
Sponsors for KTK week 2016 is the Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning.
S port Update
Yr 3– 6 Jamieson Way Athletics Carnival
The 3-6 Jamieson Way Athletics Carnival was conducted on Friday 13 May 2016. The carnival was incredibly
successful with fine weather and a positive atmosphere that produced outstanding results. Thank you to the
Point Cook College Sports and Recreation students, the Jamieson Way House Captains and a number of Year 8
students who assisted with officiating on the day. A special thank you to a
number of Jamieson Way parent helpers who gave up their time to assist
with officiating at the carnival—Gavin Trabart, Andrea Houston and Danni
Turner. I really appreciate your help and without your assistance an event
like this could not be conducted.
Year 7-9 Carranballac College Athletics Carnival
The Yr 7-9 Athletics Carnival will be conducted on Thursday 2 June 2016. Notes must be returned to school by
Friday 27 May. Late notes will not be accepted. Students are encouraged to wear a colour shirt to rep-

We have an enthusiastic team of parents well into the planning stages for this “back by popular demand” event. It’s going to be a great night once again and we hope as many of you as pos-sible can attend. This is a fantastic opportunity to socialise amongst our school community and show your support for our school, our continuing efforts to air condition the whole college and support other College programs for our kids! CAN YOU HELP?? If you are able to donate a product, voucher or service towards the Trivia Night or know some-one who may, please contact Valetta Johnston (Boardwalk) at [email protected], or Melissa Turner (Jamieson Way) at [email protected]. You can also speak to someone in either office who will contact the Trivia Team. Thankyou!!
