ROCCO’S RANTS...

Did you know that an estimated 50% of todays cat owners never take their cat to a vet for health care? Cats tend to keep their problems to themselves, so owners think the cats are perfectly

healthy. In some case, they may be suffering from life-threatening

illnesses. As a result, cats are usually much sicker than dogs by the time

they are actually taken to the vet for treatment! So, let’s resolve to get those kitties in for annual check-ups in 2010!

RULE #1: The deeper the sleep, the heavier the dog. Thefirstthingyoudiscoverwhen you bring a dog ontoyour bed is the strikingdifferenceinweightbetweenawide-awakedogandadogat rest. This has not beenscientifically proven, butgenuinelyunderstood.

Building better lifelong bonds through behavior, training & professional coaching

we teach dog owners new tricks

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you; that is the principal difference between

a dog and a man.-Mark Twain

I read a scary article about a puppy that chomped down ona Christmas tree bulb - thinking it was a ball. But, instead of beingscared, he ate most of it! After all, he is a puppy. Pet Adoption Event

5th Annual

SundayFeB 7th

1-5 pm

This event was created to bring additional awareness to the on-going plight of our area homeless animals and to help raise much needed funds for our local rescue and shelters. For more info...adoptavalentine.com

We all want to be kind to our pets and show affection for their unconditional love. Most times, this translates into giving them many

treats and table scraps. In these cases - we are doing them a great disservice - and creating a scary national trend. In 2008, the American

Veterinary Medical Association estimated that out of 54 million dogs and cats in the US, more than 1 out of 3 are overweight! Compare that

with the early 70’s when less than 1 out of 8 had a weight problem. Obesity can lead to

several health problems in our pets - just as it does in humans. The first step to controlling pet obesity is simply to acknowledge the problem. Start by cutting out table scraps and reducing treats. Check out some low calorie treats - my

pets don’t know the difference! Exercise is also key! Even if your pet is older and very

overweight, a simple walk to the end of the street, toy mouse time, or quick game of

tug-o-war is a great way to start.
