W H AT I S A N I N T E R A C T I V EI N S TA L L AT I O N ?Where the virtual world meets the real world to help create a dialogue between people and brands.
Interactive installations use displays, touch interfaces, and new
media to capture people’s attention in public places. Passersby
are asked to interact with content through touch, taking
photos, posting to social media networks, voting, or gaming.
Through these informative or entertaining actions, advertisers
wish to eectively communicate their brand messages and
leave lasting impressions on their customers.

Goals of an I N S TA L L AT I O N : There are hundreds of distractions to
pull someone away from the installation.
You must create an installation
engaging enough to capture someone’s
attention and make them want to stop
and participate.
Engage »To create a memorable experience, it
helps to show the user something they
have never seen before. Make them
remember the brand and the
experience.
Impress »
The average user has 130 facebook
friends. Having participants share their
experience at an installation
exponentially increases the reach of a
campaign.
Share »Whether you are directly selling a
specific product or just selling the
brand, it is important to remember the
end goal - Sell more goods.
Sell »

You can combine the building blocks together to design a
installation. Before you start, spend some time getting to know
all of our building blocks you can use. In the next section, we'll
show examples of how to piece our building blocks together to
create a great installation.
O U RC A PA B I L I T I E SA great installation is a combination of diverse physical and virtual building blocks.

SocialIntegration
7
A user's social network can expand the reach of your installation far beyond who sees it in person. Sharing the experience on a social network further builds buzz about the experience and the brands involved.
Twitter • Follow• Direct Message• @Mention• Tweet (text or photo)
Facebook • Wall Post (text or photo)
SMS• Send Text• Receive Text
BBM• Send Message• Receive Message
Example:
Share this photo with your friends on Facebook!
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

UI / UXBehavior
All elements of the installation are important, but all the user will see is the content. What is shown on the screen can make or break an installation. Think about what the brand is trying to accomplish and design the installation to accomplish this goal.
Example:
Oakley wants customers to see what their new sunglasses look like on users, so they use
augmented reality and a TV to show them.
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
Games • Casual Games• Motion Controlled• Touch Controlled• Installation to Installation Network Play
Content Creation• Photos• Videos• Text

An installation can do more than bring the digital world to reality. It can allow people to interact with physical objects to create content, discover new information, and be amazed.
Image Capture• Take Pictures• Share pictures on social networks• Add visual eects• Composite and crop images
Video Capture • Record video• Share video on social networks• Chroma-key (green-screen)
