BMW INPA / Ediabas K+DCAN USB Interface Diagnostic Test Line
BMW INPA interface is a diagnostic equipment with a powerful function of diagnosing both the
old and the latest BMW serials cars, such as E60, E39, E65 built between 1998 and 2008, and
does the communication speed much faster than GT-1. Often, the interface only needs 6 seconds to
scan out all the trouble codes of the car with a CANBUS gateway communication. How does this
interface work? BMW INPA interface is set up as a STD:OBD2 interface and translates all
commands/traffic to and from the D-CAN Bus.
Each and every OBD2 equipped vehicle is supported by BMW INPA interface USB , but with only
two exceptions. First, if you have an older car with both the OBD2 and the 20 pin connector then
it must only be used for factory diagnostic since the OBD2 connector will not be fully wired. The
other exceptions are the F-series cars which are actually caused by the older diagnostic software
that does not officially support the vehicles.
The support protocols of the BMW INPA Diagnostic Test Line include; Fast magistral D-CAN and
PT-CAN (500 kbit/s), Slow magistral K-CAN (100 kbits/s) and Standard BMW protocol (BMW
OBD interface). Supported systems comprise all systems of BMW series and OBD2 diagnostic

Notice of using BMW INPA:
Though the interface is still fully compatible with the F series vehicles, they are not officially
supported by the old Ediadas K USB interface. Nevertheless, before using this tool, ensure that
you keep the battery of your notebook fully charged to avoid battery broken. It is advisable not to
charge the battery while diagnosing. However, before charging, discharge the battery completely.
You may knock the battery down and connect the power line during long time diagnosis to
maximize the battery life. While testing, ensure that all the diagnostic lines are well connected.
Start the diagnosis only after you’ve made sure that all the icons on the bottom right of the screen
are displayed regularly. Once the diagnosis is finished, fold back the screen to the main interface,
then shut down the key and pull out the connector. The power or the connector should not be cut
during the test. Keep off the high temperature components in carriage during test too.
