What is National Young Reader’s Week? National Young Readers Week is part of the
BOOK IT! Program, meant to encourage children to read more.

Why is it important? Children learn by example. When they see
adults they look up to reading, students are more likely to read, too. Meeting people from a variety of occupational fields helps to reinforce the idea that reading plays an important role in any career a person chooses.

Since 1984, the Pizza Hut BOOK IT! National Reading Incentive Program has been encouraging a love of reading in children.
And it’s working.
As the largest and longest-running corporate supported reading program, BOOK IT! is now fostering its second generation of program alumni.

BOOK IT! goals are based on reading ability. Number of books, number of pages, or number of minutes – they all work. Children not yet able to read can reach goals by having someone read to them.
