Upgrade FAQs
Q: How long will students and faculty have access to their just-completed WINTER courses after the upgrade? A: As usual, Winter course students will be able to access their old courses for two weeks after course completion (minus the 6 days Bb is down for students for the upgrade) Faculty will have their usual 4-week course access after the course ends (minus the 4 days Bb is down for faculty for the upgrade). In short: the calendar dates on which Winter courses will become un-available does NOT change because of the Bb upgrade.
Q: Will all of my content and my students’ work that is my current or upcoming Bb courses be there when the upgrade is complete? A: Yes. The upgrade only affects the Blackboard application, NOT the data the application holds. All of your assignments, documents, and student submissions will be there in Blackboard once the upgrade is complete.
Q: What if I have questions about Blackboard Version 9 once the upgrade is completed? A: There are many places and people who can help you once the upgrade is completed, including tutorials available on the “9.1 Upgrade” tab and in the All Faculty Community. To ask a question, the best place to start is with your college’s Upgrade Ambassadors (see the sidebar below). If you have technical questions about access or items not working properly, contact the Service Desk. Additionally, CAE Faculty Trainer is available for Office Hours via Skype after the upgrade during the following days and times (CST):
• Friday, March 9 – 2:30-4:00 pm • Saturday, March 10 – 10:00 am-12:00 noon, 2:00-6:00 pm • Sunday, March 11 – 2:00-5:00 pm, 7:00-9:00 pm • Monday, March 12 – 5:00-7:00 pm • Tuesday, March 13 – 11:00 am – 1:00 pm • Thursday, March 15 – 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
(Skype contact = buonlinetraining)
Attention Digital Dropbox Users: The Digital Dropbox is not a part of
Blackboard 9.1. If you have any student submissions using Digital Dropbox in your recent, current, or upcoming courses, you
need to download those assignments BEFORE the upgrade begins.

Winter Grades Due: Tuesday, March 13th (Info from the Colleges about Student Grading)
• Online grading will be available for your Winter, 2011/2012 12 week Regular Session classes,
beginning on Saturday March 3rd. During this period you will have the ability to submit grades
for your classes through BRUIN using the instructions given.
• We have set up grading to allow you to grade a class in stages. It is acceptable to submit some grades while leaving others blank during this 10 day period, however all students must be assigned a
letter grade A-F, I or P/N for Pass/Fail classes by 5:00 pm, Tuesday March 13th.
• If you plan on submitting some grades while leaving others blank please set the approval status to “Not Reviewed.” After you have submitted all grades you may switch to “Approved.”
• Once this period is over, online grading will be turned off and all grades after this date must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office using the current manual procedures.
• Please double check your data entry before saving your grades to the database.
• Please note that even one student without a valid grade assigned to them at the end of the grading period will generate an email sent to you and your College Dean outlining that you have grades missing.
• For more information, contact your college AA.
Remember to download your Grade Centers before the Blackboard Upgrade begins at 12:01 a.m. Monday, March 5, if you wish to work on grading while
Blackboard is unavailable!
