schools in 2015 are open.
If interested, you may collect a paper application
form from school, or complete an online applica-
tion on www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement.
Applications close on 18th November, 2013.
SmartStart Assembly We have a very special sporting assembly on Friday, 15th November. Because it is our 10th year of par-
ticipating, in this fitness program, Rob de Castella’s team is coming out to run lots of sports activities for
free. Then, at assembly time, Rob is coming to present some certificates as well as our sports champions
medals. It will end up being a huge assembly. Please come! Everyone welcome. The timetable is at-
tached. Please join at any stage.
150th Anniversary Meeting
We encourage as many of you, as pos-
sible, to come to this meeting at 7pm,
12th November. We have claimed the
date (7th March 2015) for this im-
portant celebration, but we need some
good ideas for running the activities on
the week-end. We now ALSO need to
change the date!
MUSICA VIVA Last Wednesday we had “Mara” visit our
school. They gave us a wonderful concert and
we had the added bonus of not having to trav-
el. Thank you parents in supporting us to pro-
vide such a high quality act for your children.
LIFE EDUCATION VAN “Happy Healthy Harold” visited us last Thurs-
day and Friday. Once again parents, thank
you for supporting us in this program. The
timing “money-wise” was atrocious, but we
don’t have much say in when these shows can
visit us. Every child loves Harold and there
are always excellent messages given. Each
child also received a workbook, which we use
in class, for follow up activities.
STATE SPELLING BEE While we were all at the Musica Viva concert, Anja was at the final of the State Premier’s
Spelling Bee final in Sydney. What an astounding job Anja did! She competed against 40 other
students, doing 18 rounds. For the last 5 rounds there was only Anja and another girl, from Syd-
ney, left in. What a phenomenal effort by Anja! She came runner up and was presented with a
medal.
Survey Each year we have to survery parents, on 2 designated areas, so that we can report on it in our ASR
(Annual School Report). We have tried to make it really short (on 1 double sided piece of paper) and
would love it returned this Friday, if that’s at all possible. (It’s just the longer you keep it, the easier it is to
forget!)
FUNDRAISING NEWS Last term we held a fundraiser for TLC - a
group that provides distraction packs for chil-
dren, in hospital, who are undergoing unpleas-
ant procedures.
Here is an article you may find interesting
about the founder and CEO of TLC. Founder and CEO of TLC for kids. Tim Conolan was nomi-
nated for Australian of the Year 2014 in the category of
“Local Hero” It is with great pleasure I announce to you that
last Thursday, Tim won this award for Victoria and will now
be heading to Canberra in January for the announcement of
the National awards.
The category of “Local Hero” acknowledges extraordinary
contributions made by Australian in their local community.
As Chairman of the Board at TLC for kids, I have first-hand
experience of the passion, commitment and integrity that Tim
boasts; he truly makes a positive difference to those around
him.
In accepting the award, Tim was extremely humbled and
thanked the children and their families for allowing him and
TLC for kids into their lives. In his own words, “I am the
luckiest guy on the planet and I love what I do. I would like to
thank the kids and their families that let us help them every
day; I wouldn’t be here without them”.
Tim has never wavered in his version or dedication and has
tirelessly led TLC for kids for the last 15 years. This year, the
TLC for kids DISTRACTION Box and RAPID TLC programs
will assist in over 600,000 medical examinations and proce-
dures. The reason for this amazing reach is TLC for kids.
REMEMBRANCE
DAY Yesterday we had a most moving Remem-
brance Day Service in the hall. Miriam, Sean,
Marlow, and Jess ran the proceedings most
ably. Ms Lamb gave a fascinating address on
the role of the band in the army and an insight
into her 25 years associated with the army. Mrs
Nicholls and Melissa created a beautiful wreath
from the students’ flowers. Thank you for
providing the flowers.
Garden Club News
Last week we made pesto. We walked around the school with
the pesto on bread. It went very quickly and most people
came back for seconds.
Keep your ears out for more sampling and sales.
Thank you your Environment Captains Heather and Liz

few minutes completing this very simple and
anonymous survey. If you would like another copy
of the survey sent to you, please contact Elissa at
