A private institute that innovates in products, services and
companies with Information and Communication
Technologies (ICTs). Since its foundation in1996, the
center helps companies throughout the innovation life
cycle - from the study of contexts, design and prototyping
ideas, to developing solutions in various sectors.
Our mission is to perform self sustainable transfer of knowledge in Information Technologies between society and academia

Population aging combined with
increased awareness about
health have generated a greater
need for regular medical care,
which has significantly raised the
costs of the healthcare industry
in the world.
The treatment of
diseases is usually
performed in a
reactive way, so when
the disease is
diagnosed it is often
in an advanced stage
of development.
PATIENT DOCTOR LABORATORY
RESULTSDOCTORTREATMENT
Molecular diagnosis currently makes it
easy to detect primary diseases with high
specificity and sensitivity. However,
techniques are expensive, requiring much
time and skilled and trained personnel.
Ionn Torrent: state-of-the-art DNA sequencer. It performs human genome sequencing to estimate the risk of cancer or other genetic diseases.
Biosensors come up as a portable
alternative, cheaper and simpler to handle
while maintaining the same sensitivity and
specificity of molecular diagnosis.PCR Machine: performs real-time analysis of patient samples (cancer, viral and bacterial diseases, etc..)
We believe that the use of biosensors for early detection and
diagnosis of diseases can increase the chances of patient
survival and reduce the costs of medical care compared to
reactive treatments in very advanced stages of diseases.
But there are still limitations of use
which prevent the unrestricted
application of biosensors by the
healthcare industry. To spread the
use of this technology, it is
necessary to develop more efficient,
reliable and user friendly systems.
Laboratory of Immunopathology Keizo Asami (LIKA), founded in 1986, has several research areas. Among them, there are the diagnosis and the proposition of new therapeutic procedures. LIKA is engaged in developing strategies to increase resolution for diagnosis of genetic diseases, infectious agents, acquired and autoimmune diseases.

Bringing together LIKA's scientific experience with C.E.S.A.R.'s
technological skills, to develop biosensors for the detection of
breast cancer with the help of robotics.
The idea is to build a system which is able to process and prepare
small blood samples in an automated fashion. This system will be
coupled with biosensors that are capable of detecting breast
cancer in its early stages.
The goal is to shorten the analysis of samples from patients that
currently take 4-6 hours to less than 30 minutes.

The first milestone of this
partnership was the presentation
of this project at the iGEM
competition, at the event Giant
Jamboree on Nov/14 in Boston.
The event gathered more than
3000 participants during 5 days
of lectures and project
presentations. The LIKA-CESAR-
BRASIL team won a silver medal
at the competition.
The iGEM Competition 2014 is a
competition created by MIT for the
advancement of synthetic biology
through a worldwide competition
where teams develop their studies in
the construction of biological
systems to be operated in living cells.
