3IntroductionErosionisanaturalprocesswheresoilandrockareloosenedandre-moved.Naturalerosionoccursataveryslowpace,butwhenlandisdisturbedduringgradingandotherconstructionactivities,theero-sionrateincreasesdramatically.Whenerosionoccursonaconstruc-tionsite,sedimentisavailablefortransportbywindorstormwaterrunoff.Thedischargeofsedimentandotherconstructionsitepol-lutantscannegativelyimpactdownstreamwaterquality.
Wheninstallingsedimentanderosioncontrols,determinewhetherthereissheetfloworconcentratedflowofstormwaterontheprop-erty.Sheetflowoccursongentlyslopinglandwithoutdefineddrain-agewaysandstormwaterdispersesevenlyacrosstheproperty.Con-centratedflowoccurswheretherearedefineddrainageways,suchasswalesorclearlydefinedwaterways.Itispossibletohaveacombina-tionofsheetflowandconcentratedflowonthesameproperty.
Thisbrochureprovidesanoverviewofproceduresthatareacceptableforresidentialbuildingconstructionwithintheunincorporatedar-easofBooneCounty.Itisnotintendedtoaddressallcircumstances.
ThebuildingpermitholderisresponsibleforensuringadequateBestManagementPractices (BMPs)are inplaceandfunctioninguntilthebuildingpermitisfinaled.Insomecases,aStormwaterPollu-tionPreventionPlan(SWPPP)maybeineffectforyourlot,inac-cordancewithasubdivisiondevelopmentorotherlanddisturbanceactivitiestotalingoneacreormore.Checkwiththeownerorde-velopertoobtainacopyoftheSWPPP,asyoucouldberesponsibleforthatportionofthelanddisturbancepermitthataffectsyourlot.

SedimentControlCaptureserodingsedimentsandkeepthemon-siteandawayfromsurfacewaters.Examplesincludesettlingbasinsandsedimenttraps,siltfenceandstrawwattles(fiberrolls).

IfBMPsarenotinstalledinthecorrectlocationand/orarenotin-stalledcorrectly,theinspectionwillbedenied.
Issueswitherosionandsedimentcontrolmeasuresshouldbecor-rectedwithinsevencalendardays.Noinspectionwilloccuruntiltheissuehasbeencorrected.
