BURLINGTON'S MOBILITY HUBS STUDY
As Burlington grows over the next 20
years, complete, compact neighbourhoods
will be planned and developed around
the city's three GO stations and the
downtown. These areas are called Mobility
Hubs, which are locations with several
transportation options and a mix of uses
such as transit, employment, housing,
recreation and shopping.
Mobility hubs will be neighbourhoods
that are environmentally friendly,
infrastructure-efficient, walkable,
bikeable and transit-oriented. They are an
important opportunity for Burlington to
grow in a way that ensures the city has
a thriving economic future and supports
local businesses, while maintaining many
of the things we value about our city. The
city is preparing plans and implementation
strategies for each Mobility Hub that will
consider things like land use, urban design,
servicing, public transportation, parking
and parks and open space needs. There
will be multiple opportunities for public
engagement on the plans throughout the
process.
YOU'RE INVITED! Mark your calendar for
the Mobility Hubs Study Launch Party
on Wednesday April 12th from 6:30pm-
8:30pm at the Mobility Hubs planning
office located at 1455 Lakeshore Rd, Unit
7 (on Locust St, across from the Esso Gas
Station). Come and learn more about the
study, meet the team, sign up for more
information, ask questions, have some
treats and win some prizes. RSVP at
Please visit www.burlington.ca/

learn about how you can get involved!
Our members continue to have great success with our CHCH Morning Live partnership whereby the BDBA subsidizes these local television segments to help showcase and promote a broader range of products and services available in our downtown.
In 2016, we helped to promote 20 BDBA members through this unique television programming parntership. 2017 has already showcased 15 members and there's opportunities for everyone.
Contact: [email protected] to learn how your business can get involved.

SPRING 2017QUARTERLY MEMBERSHIP NEWSLETTER
2017More culture, new faces, fresh ideas —more to explore!
This event also helped to spread the word
about the Canadian Cancer Society (Halton
Chapter), who was the charity-of-choice
for this year’s “pay it forward” donation
request. We thank everyone who attended
the performances and for their generous
support of our local Cancer Society.
Spring also means the beginning of
construction season! We have recently
learned that the first leg of the Elgin
Promenade, an enhanced east/west
pedestrian walkway through the downtown,
is expected to begin construction by spring
2017. Permit approval has been obtained
from Trans-Northern Pipeline Inc. The
second leg of the Promenade, between
Elizabeth Street and John Street, is also
slated to begin construction in fall 2017
(post Ribfest).
Municipal parking lot #1 (that runs from
Pearl Street to Elizabeth Street) is being
redeveloped to coincide with that first leg
of the Elgin Promenade construction this
spring. Parking Services is in the process
of contacting the monthly permit holders
in that lot to advise them of the upcoming
change. When construction is complete
the lot will be reassigned as "customer
only" daily parking in an effort to provide
relief to the businesses in that corridor.
Further, on the topic of parking … this
spring, underground "pucks" will be added
to all on-street parking and municipal lots
to give us real time, 24/7 parking use data,
so we will have a better idea of whether
parking is at capacity, and the times and
areas of downtown where there is heaviest
use. The result may be the addition of new
on-street parking spaces for customer use.
Through member feedback in recent
months, we realize that there have been
some challenges faced by our members
and visitors to our downtown with regards
to the new on-street and surface lot
parking machines. Please know that
we have alerted the City of Burlington’s
Transportation staff to a number of
these issues and, City staff are presently
working with the vendor to address these
issues, which range from processing time,
rejection of credit card payments, etc.
In addition, the Downtown Parking
Committee has hired a firm to work with us
to improve the branding of the downtown
parking experience to customers and
visitors. The result will be a three year
marketing and communications plan
aimed at making the downtown parking
experience more easily understood and
user-friendly.
Finally, as spring will quickly turn to
summer, I am personally looking forward
to all of the wonderful events to come,
including; Fit in the Core, our outdoor
fitness event that happens each Sunday
morning in front of City Hall, summer
retail sales, patios and open-air markets. I
also hope to see you out at our upcoming
Business Mixes and Annual General
Meeting.
UPDATE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF
THE BOARD
DAVID HAYWARDMartin & Hillyer Associates
It’s been a mild start to 2017 weather wise,
but a busy start to the New Year for the
Burlington Downtown Business Association.
A few short weeks ago, we hosted a very
successful 2nd annual Burlington Comedy
Festival – drawing in enthusiastic crowds at
both the Burlington Performing Arts Centre
and the Water Street Cooker, who were our
event hosts. The comics were well received
by the audiences and we are pleased to
have brought new patrons to the downtown
during this shoulder season. Thanks also to
the many partners that helped to make the
events true "made in downtown" animation,
including: Waterfront Hotel Downtown
Burlington, CAPREIT, Carriage Gate Homes,
Beaver & Bulldog, Investor’s Group (Patrick
Buscar), Pepperwood Bistro, Pane Fresco,
and The Burlington Sound of Music Festival.

The city has received an application
from Carriage Gate Homes to amend the
Official Plan and Zoning By-law to permit
a 26-storey mixed-use building at Brant
Street and James Street across from City
Hall. The development encompasses five
individual parcels at 421, 425, 427, 429
and 431 Brant Street, as well as 2007 to
2015 James Street, running the width of
the block from Brant to James.
The application is for a mixed use

The proposal includes widening of the
