Bassanio’s is one of the protagonists in the Merchant of Venice

He plays close confidant of Antonio and the princess Portia’s lover

He is a very critical playerin the plot as only due to him the bond is taken by Antonio.

• It is very surprising to see friends so close that they will put their life on the linefor each other.

Of all the characters in the Merchant of Venice , Bassanio is the only character who is carefree and slightly insincere to his surrounding.

He makes sure his appearance is always intact and people always see in him what they want to see. For example Portia from the start always thought that he was perfect.

To shylock Bassanio doesn’t seem like a threat at all just someone who got in the way.

Bassanio is Antonio’s closest friend
