He was a pioneer in the food preservation industry.

He died on January 2, 1971.He graduated from high-school as an honor student at East Side High School in Aurora, Illinois.

His career in chemistry began as a chemist at the Chicago and the University of Illinois.Jobs.In 1919 he joined the John Morrell meat-packing company as the chief chemist.
