AUSTRALIAN SINGLESNINE AUSSIE SINGLES THAT KILLED AT BIGSOUND

Stella Donnelly – ‘Boys Will Be Boys’
Barely a muscle was moved or a peep made during Donnelly’s devastating, perfectly formed ballad about accountability and rape culture – a contender for the best Australian song of the year, and one of the most insightful songs written about a tough, fraught subject.
In an incredibly strong lineup of women and gender-diverse performers, Donnelly was not only a clear standout musically, but also a gracious, warm, funny and thoughtful presence, offering a content warning before the intense ‘Boys’, acknowledging her privilege as a white Australian as she accepted the inaugural Levi’s Music Prize on Friday.
Lupa J – ‘Keep Back’
A neon beam of weird charisma with shades of The Knife’s Karin Dreijer Anderson in her vocals, Lupa J closed her Tuesday night set with this cut-glass banger.
Odette – ‘Watch Me Read You’
The hype is real, and the next single is too. There’s also a crowd-pleasing and perfectly on-brand cover that will likely come out in future sets from the 19-year-old artist, so we won’t spoil it.
Didirri – ‘Blind You’
Didirri Peters’ gambit of opening his Wednesday showcase with a cover of Joe Pug’s ‘Bury Me Far From My Uniform’ won over a slightly restless crowd, as did his wry request that punters consider refraining from ordering cocktails that required loud shaking.
But it’s the Melbourne folk singer’s quietly soaring anthem of hope and grace, where his bell-clear vocals recall Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, that showed why audiences on both nights shut up for his set, and then couldn’t shut up about him after.
Miss Blanks – ‘Clap Clap’
Premium all-out filth from Brisbane’s fiercest emerging MC, who won herself a spot on this year’s Listen Out and has just been announced for Laneway 2018 as well.
Willaris K – ‘Dour Nights’
The TBC Club went off to this bubbling, wicked epic – released just a few days earlier – as A&Rs from multiple prominent indies eyedeach other off warily across the room.
Two Steps – ‘Hold Me’
The unrelenting beauty of June Jones’ songwriting and performance hasn’t had a better showcase than this: a stark portrait of emotional anguish and physical intimacy that unfolds with aching patience.
Joyride – ‘Kings & Queens’
One of the most underrated Aussie singles of the year; despite everyone’s crammed schedules, industry types who have plenty of opportunities to see Joyride (or Boyride, as he and his band were christened for the night) still sneaked in to Ric’s to bask in the anti-lockouts anthem’s understated, blooming synths.
Baker Boy – ‘Marryuna’
Baker Boy’s follow-up single to his hit ‘Cloud 9’ floored the crowd so hard he played it twice – enough said. Watch for it on October 6.
NINE AUSSIE SINGLES THAT KILLED AT BIGSOUND
We’re not saying they’re definitively the best of BIGSOUND 2017 – with 130+ incredible emerging acts on the bill, it’s too tough a call to make. But here are nine tracks that had the dusty industry delegates
and media dropping superlatives over coffee the next morning.

AUSTRALIAN SINGLES REPORT
It’s week #2 of P!NK’s reign on the Hot 100, silencing the talk of an all-out Taylor takeover. Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ remains at #2 for another week but is looking very likely to invade P!NK’s space over the coming weeks.
Justin Bieber’s team-up with Bloodpop on ‘Friends’ is finding its feet at commercial, rising to #3 from #5. While Bieber has some serious experience at the top of the Hot 100, this is the first single from Bloodpop (fka Blood Diamonds) to make the chart.
Taking ‘Friends’’ position at #5 is Kesha’s comeback single ‘Praying’. It shoots up from #17, a new peak for the track, and her highest position on the chart since ‘We R Who We R’ cracked the Top 5 in February 2011.
Alaskan rock act Portugal. The Man have hit their highest ever peak on the chart as ‘Feel It Still’ continues its ascent at #18 this week. It’s a monumental feat for the band who have traditionally gained airplay on rock and alternative stations in the past.
Radio has some tough choices to make next week. Do they throw their weight behind the incredibly well-crafted pop hit ‘Let Me Go’, a collaborative effort between Hailee Steinfeld and Alesso, featuring Florida Georgia Line and watt?
The other choice (and it’s a good one at that), is ZAYN’s latest cut, ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ featuring Sia. It doesn’t just come down to that though. The new Sam Smith will turn heads across radio. The formula hasn't changed, and that’s a good thing because Sam’s got another hit on the say. Of course, what’s likely to happen is that radio will just add all three.
It’s hard to deny that the new Wyclef Jean isn't catchy (and funny), while the George Michael posthumous release ‘Fantasy’ ticks enough boxes to be a viable commercial radio favourite.
It was a nail-bitingly close week of additions this week. Initially it looked like the competition was between Guy Sebastian’s ‘High On Me’ and Taylor Swift’s surprise ‘…Ready For It?’. That soon changed after a flurry of last minute adds came through for U2’s ‘You’re The Best Thing About Me’.
With over 70 additions across every network including Nova, Triple M regional and Hit Regional, U2 managed to sneak past Guy’s new hit. Taken from their forthcoming 14th studio album Songs Of Experience, it’s the companion album to the infamous 2014 release Songs Of Innocence.
‘High On Me’ clocks in at #2 followed by ‘…Ready For It’. It's the second Taylor Swift single in the Most Added chart in as many weeks. Maroon 5 clean up the rest of radio with ‘What Lovers Do’ ft. SZA at #4 following the early additions it received last week.
New tracks from Ricki-Lee, Kim Churchill and Tommy Trash all enjoy sizable entries into the chart off the back of SCA network additions.

It’s a great week to be Khalid. The re-service of ‘Young, Dumb & Broke’ has gone swimmingly at radio, receiving additions and airplay across commercial with Nova and Hit being the biggest supporters.
Last week saw a Taylor Swift-dominated spins charts, but it’s not as clear cut this time around. While she still has the unyielding love of Nova, it’s P!NK who sits atop Hit’s Spins chart with ‘What About Us’, and Jonas Blue’s ‘Mama’ that is the KIIS favourite.

French melodic house pioneer Klingande is back with a new highly anticipated single 'Pumped Up', a vibrant reworking of Foster The People's 2010 hit 'Pumped Up Kicks'.
With upbeat piano chords giving the production a signature Klingande sound, the track is led by a gentle melody and soft tropical baseline, followed by the Frenchman injecting his trademark summery feel to the piece. A musician in the truest sense of the word, Klingande is dedicated to producing unusual and mesmerising soundscapes, and 'Pumped Up' carries on this tradition.

The trending charts this week have been dominated by Taylor Swift and her track ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, which is sitting at #1 on the Spotify Viral and Shazam Movers chart, as well as #2 on the Shazam Future Hits chart.
Justin Bieber's collaboration with Bloodpop, 'Friends', has dropped from #1 this week on the Shazam Future Hits, down to #3, switching places with Avicii’s track ‘Without You’ featuring Sandro Cavazzi.

OVERVIEW
Tommy Trash is one of Australia’s biggest dance music exports, touring the world’s biggest clubs and festivals and releasing tracks like the multi-Platinum selling ‘Reload’ with Sebastian Ingrosso and John Martin. Now Tommy releases ‘Sinners’, a melodic house track featuring the delicate vocals of Daisy Guttridge. Premiered by Billboard, ‘Sinners’ has already hit the Top 15 of the iTunes Dance chart and the Spotify Viral 50. The track was picked up by Spotify’s New Music Friday in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Philippines, Canada, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Finland and Italy, as well as being supported by Chill Nation on YouTube with 3.9 million followers. With all this early support, ‘Sinners’ is set to be Tommy’s biggest hit yet.
