Summer is half over and many membershave enjoyed cottages or travel during JuneandJuly.Itoccurredtomethattheremightbeinterest in arranging a travelers group inwhich members could exchange experiencesandIsentanemailoutsuggestingthatalongwiththeideaofagourmetgroupandabridgegroup but so far there has been hardly anyresponse. This may be because there hasobviouslybeen someproblem in reachingallourmembersvia email.At the lastmeeting Iasked for a showof hands of howmanyhadnot received the minutes of the previousmeetingandabouthalf thememberspresentraisedtheirhands.Thisisaproblemthathastobeaddressedimmediately.TheanniversarylunchatGlenAbbeywaswellattendedandenjoyedbyallandtable10wontheprizeforgettingthemostcorrectanswersto the quiz arranged by Helmut, Ted Nixonpresented a certificate on behalf of ProbusCanada and gave a brief history of themovement. We were pleased to have as ourguests Al Histed and hiswife Joyce. Al , as amemberoftheRotaryClubatthetime,helpedorganise The Probus Club Of Oakville in1988.For thoseof youwhocouldnot attendthe lunch and receive an attractiveanniversary pen we have a supply of themwhich will be available at the next fewmonthlymeetings.

Brian Taylor has arranged for interestingspeakers at our meetings through June ofnext year and the Activities Committeeunder chair Robin Davison has anoutstanding schedule of events for eachmonthof2013and isworkingon2014.OnJuly 23 there was a large turnout ofmembers to visit the Halton WaterTreatment plant on LakeshoreWest whichhasrecentlybeenenlargedandupgradedtohandletheexpecteddoublinginpopulationofHaltonRegion to1millionover thenext20years.AfterthetouracontingentstillhadappetitesforlunchattheCoachandFour.A reminder that cheques for the annualmembership dues of $45 are now beingaccepted. Booking of the Conference Centre has been completed. This is our opportunity to honour our retiring President for his great work over the past year and welcome our new President. ThursdayOctober10 ‘Credit Valley Explorer’ Board 11:00hrs, Return 14:15hrs Enjoy a mid-day scenic train tour through the Credit Valley and Forks of the Credit from Orangeville to Snelgrove and return with a rest stop at the village of Inglewood. Initially 30 seats have been reserved for this event. The tour travels along the edge of the Escarpment in classic rail cars, includes complimentary refreshments and a lunch (warm chicken skewers on a bed of rice and lettuce, with a roll and dessert). This is a drive yourself event at a cost of $55.00 per person. Frank Fisher is coordinating. SundayOctober27 ‘The Toronto All Star Big Band’ AFallSundayafternoonconcertattheOakvilleCentre for the Performing Arts. 'Swing Swing Swing' commencing at 2.00 pm until approximately 4.30 pm.Ticketsforthiseventare$38.00perperson.MikePallantiscoordinating.WednesdayNovember13 Centre for Education and Training at 171 Speers Road. This is a drive yourself no cost event. Have fun and learn how to use a computer and other devices. A flyer will be made available and the sign up commences at the August meeting. Frank Fisher is coordinating. Thursday December 5 ‘Christmas Luncheon’ To be held once again at the Atrium with entertainment by the one and only Brad Boland.

Someof themanyservicesofAcclaimHealth includeFriendlyVisiting(regularvisitsoroutings forfrailor isolatedseniors),Nursing(quality24/7nursingandpalliativecare,continencemanagement,enterostomalandwoundcare),HomeandPersonalSupport(bathing,dressingskincareandfeeding),AlzheimerDayPrograms(specializedtherapeuticsocializationandrecreationalactivities),AlzheimerSupport and Education (support groups for families and caregivers). BrockGodfrey tookearly retirement in1993afterthirtyyearswiththeOntarioMinistryofEducation .He joined PhoneBusters in 1997 as a volunteersenior buster, and has since been instrumental ineducatingthepublicandraisingawarenessofillegalmassfraudandI.D.theft,particularlyamongSeniors.His organization later became the “Canadian Anti‐FraudCentre”sponsoredbytheRCMPandtheQPP.Currently, his major endeavour involves advisingvictimsof telephone, credit cardor computer fraud,as well as presentations to various groups, such asProbus.
