Attendance OfficerJob Description

Job Title: AttendanceOfficer

Grade: 4

Role purpose: Toprovideaspecialistservicetohelptheschooltoraiseachievementbyimprovingschoolattendanceandpunctualityandtomeetourattendancetargets.

Thepromotionofpositiveattitudesbypupilsandtheirfamiliestowardseducationandensuringthatparentsaremadefullyawareoftheirstatutoryresponsibilities,particularlywherethereispersistentabsence.Makeunsupervisedhomevisitsandattendsmeetingbothatschoolandoffsite.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Pupil Attendance1. Toadvisetheschoolonstrategiestopromotetheregularandpunctualattendanceofallpupilsandassistwiththe

implementationofagreedstrategies.2. Updateschoolrecords,analyseattendancedataandprovidereportstoseniormanagersandotherprofessionals.

Disseminateinformation,bothinternallyandexternally,inatimelyfashion.3. Meetwithschoolstaff,pupilsandparentstoestablishthereasonsfornonattendance/poorpunctualityandagreeaplan

withappropriatestrategiesandtimescalestotackletheissues.4. Makecontactwiththefamiliesinresponsetoallocatedreferralsthroughhomevisitsand/ormeetingsinschool.5. LiaisewiththeEducationWelfareOfficer.Preparetheappropriatepaperworkandpresentinformationasrequiredto

enabletheschooltomeetitsobligationsandstatutoryresponsibilities.Thiswillincluderequestingpenaltyfinenotices,and,ifappropriate,thecompletionofCommonAssessmentForm(CAF)referrals.

6. BefullyawareofandcarryoutallworkinlinewithChildProtection/SafeguardingProcedures.7. Liaiseandworkwithexternalorganisationsasrequired.8. Keepaccurate,clearandconciserecordsofallinterventionsandconsultationsandupdateinformationontheschool’s

attendancesystem.9. Manageyourownworkloadinlinewiththeschoolpriorities.10.Maintainagoodworkingknowledgeofthestatutoryframeworkandanypoliciesandproceduresrelatingtoschool

attendance,childemployment,childprotectionandspecialneedsetc.inordertobeabletoofferinformedadvicetoparents,schoolstaffandothers.

11. LiaisewithPastoralSupportandadviceonallmattersrelatingtoattendanceandwherenecessarytakealeadroleindevelopingworkprocessestoimproveschoolattendance.

12.Workoninitiativeswhichraisetheawarenessofthewholeschoolcommunityontheimportanceofgoodschoolattendance.

13.Co-ordinatetheworkofanycolleaguesthatmightassistwiththerunningofattendance.

ThisJobDescriptionsetsoutthemaindutiesassociatedwiththestatedpurposeofthepost.Itisassumedthatotherdutiesofasimilarlevel/natureundertakenwithinthesectionarenotexcludedbecausetheyarenotitemized.

Thedutiesofthispostcouldvaryfromtimetotimeasaresultofnewlegislation;changesintechnologyorpolicyandinthatcaseappropriatetrainingmaybegiventoenablethepostholdertoundertakethisnew/variedwork.

Thispostisfor37hoursaweek39weeksayear.Thisistermtimeplusstafftrainingdays.Thepostholderwillbeexpectedtoattendmeetingsormakehomevisitsinoroutsideofthenormalschooldaysoflexibilityaboutthetimingofworkinghoursisanessentialrequirementofthisrole.
