NAIDOCWeek NAIDOCWeekisatimetoreflectandcelebratethehistory,cultureandachievementsofFirstNationPeoples–recognisingthemastheTraditionalOwnersoftheland.ItiscelebratedbyallAustraliansandisagreatopportunitytolearnmoreaboutAboriginalandTorresStraitIslandercommunities.TheofficialNAIDOCWeekisduringtheholidaysfromthe4to11July.ThisyearNSWPublicSchoolswillcelebrateNAIDOCWeekfrom21to25June(Week10)tofitintotheschoolterm.TheThemeofNAIDOCWeekis‘HealCountry’

OnMonday21stofJuneBeverlyHillsPublicSchoolwillberecognisingtheimportanceofNAIDOCWeekwithasmokingceremony,ledbyKoomurriEntertainment.Theceremonywillbeginat9:30am.AsmokingceremonyisanancientAboriginalcustominAustraliathatinvolvesburningvariousnativeplantstoproducesmoke,whichhascleansingpropertiescreatingapathwayforabrighterfuture.Additionalactivitieswillalsooccurduringtheweekinclassrooms.

Parentsandcarersareinvitedtotheschooltowatchthisspecialceremony.AremindertoallparentsonsitetocheckinusingtheQRcodeandsigninonsignonsheetslocatedattheentranceoftheschool.

Term2GoldAwardOur Gold Award Assembly will be held onMonday 21 June commencing at 2.10pm. To ensure we align with health anddepartment guidelines limitations to the number of parents in the hall will need to bemaintained. Parents/carerswho havechildrenreceivinganawardareinvitedtoattendandwillbegivenprioritywithseating.OurHarmonyChoirwillalsobeperforminga song at thisAssembly, if seating is available theremaybe available seating for parentswith students in theHarmonyChoir.Invitationshavebeensent toourawardwinners.Werequest thatamaximumof2parent/carersperawardwinnerattendtheassembly.Wethankyouinadvanceforyoursupportandunderstanding.

LastweekanexpressionofinterestnotewassenthomeasweareseekingparenthelpersfromK-6whoareavailabletoassistwithourB.E.A.Rtutorprogram.Weareanticipatingtobeginthisprogramnextterm.TheB.E.A.Rprogramisa10weekprogramthatisaimedatacceleratingthereadingskillsofStage1studentswhowouldbenefitfromadditionalreadingsupport.AllparenthelpersK-6whoexpresstheirinterestwillreceivetrainingandsupporttoensuretheyhaveaclearunderstandingoftheprogramanditsstructure.IfyouarestillinterestedinsupportingourB.E.A.RprogramcanyoupleasecontactMrsTsailisforfurtherinformation.

NationalConsistentCollectionofData:SchoolStudentswithDisability(NCCD)Everyyear,all schools inAustraliaparticipate in theNationallyConsistentCollectionofDataonSchoolStudentswithDisability(NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about support provided tostudentswithadisability.Thisinformationwillfocusattentionontheindividualadjustmentsrequiredtosupportstudentswithadisability ensuring students effectively participate in learning on the same basis as other students. The collection of datastrengthenscommunicationbetweenallstakeholdersandenablestheschoolanopportunitytoreviewourlearningandsupportsystemsandprocessestocontinuallyimproveeducationoutcomesforallstudents.Afactsheetforparents,guardiansandcarershasbeenincludedinthiseditionofConnectionsforfurtherinformation.

ICASAssessments:StudentsinYears2to6willhavetheopportunitytoparticipateinICASassessmentsinScience,Spelling,EnglishandMathematics.StudentsinYears3-6willalsobeabletoparticipateinaWritingassessmentthisyear.ICASAssessmentswilltakeplaceinTerm3onthefollowingdates:

All assessments for ICAS will take place in the morning, commencing at 8.10am. The cost of English, Spelling, Science andMathematicsassessmentsis$17.05.TheWritingassessmentis$21.45.Thisyear,allpaymentsforICASassessmentswillbemadeonlinedirecttoUNSWGlobalAssessments.

Stage2NewsOverthesemester,Stage2studentshavestudiedtheunit,FirstContacts.WehavebeenfocusingonthefirstcontactbetweenGadigalAboriginalpeopleandEuropeancolonists.Aspartofourstudies,studentsgottovisitBarangarooReservetolearnabouttraditionalAboriginalcultureaswellasplacesinMillersPointandTheRockstolearnaboutEuropeancolonialsettlement.OurstudentsparticipatedinastoryatBarangarooReserveaboutthetraditionalcustodiansoftheland,theGadigalPeople.WelearntatraditionalAboriginalweavingtechniquetodevelopanempatheticunderstandingofAboriginalculture.WevisitedParburyRuins,theundergroundfoundationsofan1816convict’shouse,andviewedartefactsfromthisarchaeologicalsite.Studentslearntabouttheoriginaloccupantsofthehouse.Stage2alsovisitedTheRocksDiscoveryMuseumtoviewhistoricalartefactsfromGadigalAboriginalpeople,andfirstfleetconvictsandcolonists,usingskillsofhistoricalinquiryandcommunication.

OpportunityClassPlacement2022

TheOpportunityClassPlacementTestwillbeheldonWednesday21July2021.Westronglyencourageparentsandcarerstoregularlymonitorthewebsiteoutlinedaboveforfurtherupdatesontheopportunityclassprocessforplacementin2022.

DancefeverMultisportOurfinalDancefeverMultisportAthleticssessionoccurredthisweek.Thestudentshavethoroughlyenjoyedenhancingtheirathleticsskillovertheterm.NextTermourDancefeverprogramwillfocusondanceandiscloselyalignedwithsyllabusoutcomes.Studentswilllearnavarietyofdancemovesandroutines.TheprogramwillcommenceonTuesday13July,whichisourfirstdaybackofTerm3.AllstudentsareremindedtoweartheirsportuniformeveryTuesday.

Remindernotesforoutstandingpaymentshasbeensenthome.Paymentfortheprogramcanbemadeatthefrontofficeoronline.ThecostoftheTerm3programis$29.00perstudent.Allstudentswillparticipateintheprogramforthefirsttwoweekswhilstfinalpaymentsaremade.Afterthistime,unpaidstudentswillnotparticipateintheDancefeverMultisportprogramandwillinsteadparticipateinamodifiedprogramatthattime.

100DaysofKindergartenCelebrationOn Friday 25June, Kindergartenwill be participating in activities throughout the dayincluding an assembly tocelebrate100daysatschool.Thismilestoneacknowledgesstudentsfortheirhardwork,perseveranceandskillstheyhavegainedalongtheway.

Kindergartenparentsareinvitedtoanassemblytocelebrateandacknowledge100daysatschoolonFriday25June,beginningat2.30pminthehall.ParentswhoattendthiseventarerequiredtocompleteourCOVIDsafepracticesbycheckinginusingtheQRcodeandsigninonsignonsheetsprovidedattheentranceofthehall.

BandPerformanceOnWednesday23rdJulyourschoolsTrainingandConcertBandwillbeperformingforStage2and3students.Theperformancewilltakeplaceintheschoolhallandwillbeginat2:10pm.Thiswillbetheschoolbandsfirstopportunitytoperforminfrontofanaudience.ParentsarewelcometocometotheperformanceandwillneedtosigninusingtheQRcodesaswellassigninsheetslocatedatthefrontoffice.

AttendanceRegularschoolattendanceisessentialforallchildrentoachievetheireducationalbest.Toensure studentsdonotmissoutonessential learningactivities it is important that all childrenarriveat schoolprior to the9.10ambell.Arrivingtoschoolpriortothebellhelpsstudentslearntheimportanceofpunctualityandroutineandgiveschildrenanopportunitytogreettheirfriendsbeforeclass.It isessential that if your child is absent fromschoola verbalorwrittennoteexplaining theabsence isprovided to the schoolwithin7daysof thedayofabsence. Ifyourchild isabsent fromschool for twoconsecutivedays,yourchild’sclass teacherwillcontactyoutodiscusstheabsence.PlaygroundEquipmentIt is wonderful to see our students and parents connecting in the afternoons and spending some time in our playgroundenvironmentprior to leaving.Whenourafternoonbell ringsat2.55pmstudentsare towait in thepickupareauntilparentsarrive. Parents can then take their child/ren to the playground equipmentfor a play. Students are not able to play on theequipmentiftheyarenotbeingsupervisedbyanadult.Itisimportantthatparentsareactivelysupervisingtheirchildiftheyareontheplayequipmentsothattheyaresafeandnoinjuriesoccur.Areminderthatourschoolgatesareclosedat3:20pmeveryafternoonand thatafter school careutilise theplayequipment in theafternoon. It isappreciated that theplayequipment isavailableforourafterschoolcarestudents.Thankyouforyourongoingsupportandunderstanding.

ParentCarpark:Parentsareremindedtotakecarewhilstusingtheparentcarpark.Priorto2.55pmvehiclesaretoentertheschoolgroundsandcontinuedrivingthroughtheparentcarpark.Forthesafetyofourstudentsandschoolcommunity,vehiclesshouldbedrivingat5kmperhour.Ifnoparkingspotsareavailableparentsaretocontinuedrivingthroughthecarparkandmaketheirwayaroundtheblockorparkinthesidestreet.

ParentsareremindedthatwaitingonKingGeorgesRoadorStoneyCreekRoadsuntil2.55pmisnotpermitted.Thisisillegalandyoumaybebooked.Ifyouareearly,pleasecontinuedrivingaroundtheblockorparkinthesidestreet.

Students are to wait in the school grounds for their parent to park the car andwalk into the school grounds to collect theirchild/ren.For safety reasons, studentswillnotbepermitted towalkalone through thecarpark.Childrenunder theageof10,shouldbeholdinganadultshandwheninthecarpark.

Carsarenottostopinthemiddleofthecarparktodropofforpickupstudents/parents.

Areminderthatthereisnosmokingpermittedonschoolgrounds,thisincludestheparentcarpark.

AsthereisnopedestrianaccessatthecarparkentrancefamilieswalkinghomeareremindedtowalkthroughtheschoolandexitthegatesatthecornerofKingGeorgesRoadandStoneyCreekRoad.Familiesarediscouragedfromwalkingdownthedrivewaytoexitviathecarparkentrypoint.

Thecarparkcanbeabusyplaceat2.55pm,pleasebepatientandrespectfulatalltimes.Parkinginthenearbysidestreetsmaybeabetteroptionforfamilieswhoneedtopickupandleavetheschoolgroundsstraightaway.Arrivingjustafter3pmallowstheinitialcarsparkedtovacate,ensuringavailabilityofcarparkspaces.

WinterSportUniformYerongauniformshaveinformedusthatourschooljacketandtracksuitpantsforourwintersportuniformiscurrentlyunavailableduetotheimpactofCovid-19andsourcingandshipmentoffabric.Wewillinformthecommunityonceuniformsarebackinstock.Manythanksforyourpatienceduringthistime.

ShareOurSpaceShareOurSpacepromoteshealthandwellbeingasitforgesstrongerlinksbetweenschoolsandcommunitiesopeningNSWschoolswithourcommunitytosharequalityspaceduringtheschoolholidays.

BeverlyHillsPublicSchooloutdoorplaygroundareawillbeopentothecommunitytheseschoolholidaysfromMonday28June,untilFriday9July2021.Theschoolgatewillbeopenfrom8amto5pmeachday.Parents/carersareexpectedtoprovideappropriatesupervisionfortheirchildorchildren.TeacherswillnotbeonsitenorsupervisechildrenaspartoftheoperationofShareOurSpace.Schooltoiletswillnotbeopenduringthisperiod.Thisfantasticinitiativesupportsouraimtoplaceourschoolsattheheartoftheircommunities.

LostpropertyAt the end of each day, a large collection of clothing and containers are left behind. Please ensure all belongings are clearlylabelled so that itemscanbe returned. Lostproperty isplaced in the containeroutside thehall. Parentsareencouraged togothroughthistocheckforlostpropertyatdropofforpickuptime.

FatheringProjectLaunchThelongtermpartnershipwiththeFatheringProjectaimstofurtherengagewiththewholeschoolcommunity,particularlytheroleoffatherandfather-figures.Wewouldliketobuildstrongerfamiliesandcommunitiesbyprovidingresources,guidanceandsupporttotakeonresponsibilitiesofengagedparenting.

PositiveBehaviourforLearning–PBL

PBLRewardDayThissemesterallstudentshavebeenworkingonbeingsafe,respectfullearnerswhenoutintheplayground.Studentshavebeencollectingplaygroundawards,showcasingexceptionalplaygroundbehaviouroverthelastsemester.Thisweek,wereachedourwholeschoolrewardtargetof450playgroundrewardtickets.Congratulationstoallstudents.

ToprepareforourrewarddayallstudentshavebeenengagedinclassdiscussionsandhavevotedonournextwholeschoolPBLreward.Asaschool,therewardselectedbystudentsisanadditional20minutesplaytime.

OnFridaythe25thJune,studentswillhaveanadditional20minutesofplaytimeatbreak.Atthistimeallteacherswillbeondutyintheplaygroundtomonitorthisreward.Thelibrarywillalsoremainopenforstudentswhowishtospendtheiradditionalbreaktimethere.

Intheeventofwetweather,classeswillwatchamoviecarefullyselectedbythestaff.
