Even Sidewalk Junk Can Become Treasured Collage Artwork

New Book Inspires Crafters to Repurpose Found Objects

Artful Collage from Found Objects (Stackpole Books; August 2012) is an inspiring guide for those who like to save bits of paper, ribbon, old newspapers and other ephemera. With the 3-dimensional collection of works from collagist Ellen Spector Platt, readers will discover their saved trinkets can be transformed into beautiful treasures. The artist uses stuff from around the house, tucked away keepsakes, leftover craft project materials, and even discards she finds on the sidewalk to design unique wall art. Collage art can tell a story, like scrapbooking, or pay tribute to beloved people, showcase special memories, or be used as seasonal decorations. Inside Artful Collage from Found Objects, the author shares the steps for the collage process, including gathering stuff already at home, using her 3R Policy: Recycle, Repurpose and Reuse. Other steps include imagining what you would like to create, manipulating your gathered materials, designing or laying out your project on a board, adhering your objects onto the board, and finally, displaying your artwork.
