The term Arcology was developed by the architecturalvisionary, Dr. Paolo Soleri, by combining the concepts ofarchitecture and ecology. It is the antithesis of urbanand/or suburban sprawl.

The Arcology is a 3-dimensional cityscape, which isdesigned to behave as an integrated “organism,” acting infull harmony with the natural cycles of the planet.Arcologies take full advantage of the energies of the sun,wind, rain, and earth, in order to work in concert with thevitality of its human occupants. The Arcology has beenaptly defined as a city which is intelligently designed forgenuinely sustainable human habitat.
