A PORTFOLIO OF CREATIVE WORK BY
This portfolio reflects my interest in digital humanism and glitch aes-thetics in the process of archite-cure. All content in this portfolio are works displaying my strengths in digital softwares such as Rhi-noceros 3D, Maya, Cinema4D, ZBrush, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, and Revit also my capabili-ties in digital and analog fabri-cation such as laser-cutting, 3D printing, CNC milling, and model-making skills (spray-paint finish-ings, sanding, glueing, etc.). Most of these projects are collaborative projects, and all content in this portfolio were produced either en-tirely or party by me. Project el-ements in which I took no part in producing have been omitted from this portfolio (such as diagrams and drawings). I am interested in an experimental approach to design, representation and fabrication.
EMERGING ART MUSEUM
ADVISOR: Herwig Baumgartner
COLLABORATORS: Shahe Gregorian
PROPOSED SITE: San Francisco, California, USA
This design features a clash of two distinct fig-ures: a brutalist mass and an organic reptile-like form. The concrete massing encases the ex-hibition spaces and the emerging metal faceted mass expresses the high atrium void of the build-ing. The sculpture-like characteristic of this design expresses the artistic nature of its pro-gram: an emerging art museum.
PROGRAMMALFUNCTION
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA UNDERGRADUATE THESIS
THESIS ADVISOR: Florencia Pita
PROPOSED SITE: Malmo, Sweden
Architecture has been heavily influenced by digital tools, both in its conception to its fabrication. A skyscraper being a feat of technology, is commonly seen to have a distict, normative architectural rhythm or pattern. This project takes the digi-tal concept and aethetics of the glitch and translates it into an architectural ex-pression. Rhythm is broken and the line that separates facade/floor, stair/slab is blurred.
The original building form of Santiago Calatrava’s Turning Torso is “glitched” by taking the digital model of the build-ing and applying various formal manipu-lations and exporting the form into dif-ferent 3D softwares in order to extract different forms that can be architectur-alized and result in new forms. The nor-mative skyscraper form becomes abiguous, almost becoming a sort of distinct cloud for the city of Malmo.
The thesis presentation features a LED-lit vacu-um formed concept model (very left), a projection mapped animation of the building interior floor-plates and elevator core on a foam figure model (center), glitched ren-ders (very right), a four feet by nine feet site plan (bottom) and a col-or 3D print model of the building (front)
SKETCH HOUSEADVISORS: PAVEL GETOV & JAY VANOS
PROPOSED SITE: Los Angeles, California
This residential project in which the main feature is the courtyard- it is the part of the house that takes the most space and acts as a zen garden that can be seen from any part of the house. The house is situated in sunny Los Angeles where the courtyard is an uncommon fea-ture for a single family residence.
GOOGLEHEADQUARTERS
ADVISOR: HANI RASHID
COLLABORATOR: HERWIG SCHERABON
PROPOSED SITE: NYC, NY, USA
This project was conceived at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria under New York city architect Hani Rashid of Asymptote. De-signing a corporate headquarters for Google meant that a certain degree of branding had to be incorporated in the design. Here, the glitch concept of breaking of rhythm is utilized to ex-press the special character of the Google head-quarters.
