INTRODUCTION
This module aims to introduce students to the requirements, activities and management as well as
operations in real life architectural practices. It is aimed to enable students to be involve in
professional practices. Hence, allow them to gain knowledge and generate awareness of principles
and procedure of law and legislation applied to proper architectural drawings as well as different
activities that occur within and architecture firm.
Therefore, students are required to produce a weekly assessment log sheet for their tutor to keep
track of their job scope given in the office. They are also require to generate a final report which
include the log sheet collected, as a documentation of their experiences, learnings and observations.
COMPANY BACKGROUND
K.H Architect located in Penang, was established by Ar.Lee Kok Hua himself during 1990s. With
more than 25 years of experience, Ar.Lee Kok Hua which is also the past chairman of PAM Northern
Chapter, has involved in various projects such as industrial, temples, school, residential, hotels and
also projects from Setia Group. Even though the firm only consists of 5 staffs (interior designer and
architects) including Ar.Lee himself, he had shown me the values of teamwork and communication
performed by them that makes their projects successful. This also reflects that you don’t need a
company with hundreds of staffs but you need people that are willing to commit and communicate
to make great ideas work.

SUMMARY OF INTERNSHIP TRAINING
1.1 Week 1 ( 3rd January 2017 – 6th January 2017 )
Project 1 : 4-storey bungalow located at Cangkat Bukit Gambir, Gelugor, Penang.
This project involves a bungalow which is built 2 floors above street level and 2 floor below street
level. It is built directly on a slope which makes it interesting. I was required to build a study model
of the building itself together with the slope. Floor plans, elevations and sections of the building
were given as reference and construction method of the 2 lower floors which were built under street
level were explained to me as well. Steel stilts were used to support the Ground Floor. The purpose
of the study model was to study how to utilize the remaining parts of land (slope) as well as addition
and subtraction of the lower 2 floors ( in consideration of the site contour )
Appendix 1.11 Site survey plan was given for site contour ( Floor plans, elevations and sections were
not allowed to be photographed due to private and confidential issues )

1.7 Week 7 ( 20th February 2017 – 24th February 2017)
Project 1 : Specialist centre located at Bandar Kulim, Kedah Darul Aman.
I was required to cross check the details of each materials used in each door for different spaces
with Specifications provided by AB Project Management Sdn.Bhd ( building work (architectural)
section). Hardwood timber flush door was the most common type used. There were some parts that
need to be further discussed with the medical consultant and owner as the type of door used for X-
ray room need to have lead line in between but due to presence of glass panel in between it could
defeat the purpose of having the lead line sheet. ( This issue will be brought forward by Ar.Lee
himself during upcoming meeting ) Other than that, there were some spaces that may require
change in type of door used due to suitability and cost.

CONCLUSION
To summarize my internship experience, I would like to express my utmost gratitude for Ar. Lee Kok
Hua for giving me this learning experience and a brief insight of architectural industry. Despite being
the director of his company, Ar. Lee had taught me a lot personally on construction details for
special projects such as the 4 storey bungalow built on a slope, documentation purposes, site
meetings and introducing me to local authorities (Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang) and different
companies that partnered with him. Furthermore, I have learnt that being on this industry you have
to face a lot of unforeseen issues rising up, that is where responsibility and patience as an architect
comes into place and dealing with all sorts of problems and challenges professionally – and I’m very
grateful for Ar.Lee to share his knowledge, hardwork and effort with me. Most importantly, I have
learnt to be humble towards learning and sharing experiences and knowledge in field with my
colleagues.
I would say that I am more aware towards this architectural industry and working procedures with
the help of Ar.Lee. Moreover, he have allowed me to enhance my skills such as photoshop, idea
thinking and model making in his projects and also introduced Microstation software to me which I
hace never learnt before. Nevertheless, I am utterly grateful for this opportunity to be in this
company and enhance my knowledge in this industry.
