OperationTheAquaRiteProisanautomaticchlorinegenerationsystemforpoolorspasanitization.Theoperationrequiresalowconcentrationofsalt(sodiumchloride)inthepoolwater.Theselevelsarelowenoughthatitnormallywillnotbetasted.TheAquaRiteProautomaticallysanitizesyourpoolbyconvertingthesaltintofreechlorinewhichkillsbacteriaandalgaeinthepool.Chlorinewillrevertbacktosodiumchlorideafterkillingbacteria.Thesereactionswillcontinuouslyrecyclevirtuallyeliminatingtheneedtoaddsanitizingchemicalstoyourpool.Theonlytimeyoumayneedtoaddmoresalttothepooliswhenwaterisreplenishedduetobackwashing,draining,orsplashing(notevaporation).
TheAquaRiteProisdesignedtohandlethepurificationneedsofmostresidentialswimmingpoolsupto40,000gallons(150,000liters),ortheneedsofmostcommercialpoolsupto25,000gal-lons(95,000liters).Checklocalcodesforotherrestrictions.Theactualamountofchlorinationrequiredtoproperlysanitizeapoolvariesduetobatherload,rainfall,temperature,andthepool'scleanliness.

NOTE: Hayward does not recommend using the AquaRite Pro to generate bromine.

WaterChemistryThetablebelowsummarizesthelevelsthatarerecommendedbyTheAssociationofPoolandSpaProfessionals(APSP).TheonlyspecialrequirementsfortheAquaRiteProarethesaltlevelandstabilizer.Itisimportanttomaintaintheselevelsinordertopreventcorrosionorscalingandtoensuremaximumenjoymentofthepool.Testyourwaterperiodically.YourauthorizedAquaRiteProdealerormostpoolstorescanprovideyouwiththechemicalsandprocedurestoadjustthewaterchemistry.BesuretotellthepoolstorethatyouareusinganAquaRiteProchlorinegenera-tor.
SaturationindexThesaturationindex(Si)relatestothecalciumandalkalinityinthewaterandisanindicatorofthepoolwater"balance".YourwaterisproperlybalancediftheSiis0±.2.IftheSiisbelow-0.2,thewateriscorrosiveandplasterpoolwallswillbedissolvedintothewater.IftheSiisabove+0.2,scalingandstainingwilloccur.Usethechartbelowtodeterminethesaturationindex.

SaltLevelUsethechartonpage5todeterminehowmuchsaltinpoundsor(Kgs)needtobeaddedtoreachtherecommendedlevels.Beawarethattheremayalreadybesaltinyourpoolfromprolongeduseofchlorine.Testyourpool,thenaddthecorrectamount.Usetheequationsbelow(measurementsareinfeet/gallonsandmeters/liters)ifpoolsizeisunknown.
Theidealsaltlevelisbetween2700-3400ppm(partspermillion)with3200ppmbeingoptimal.Ifthelevelislow,determinethenumberofgallonsinthepoolandaddsaltaccordingtothechartonpage5.AlowsaltlevelwillreducetheefficiencyoftheAquaRiteProandresultinlowchlorinepro-duction.AhighsaltlevelcancausetheAquaRiteProtoshutdownandmaybegintogiveasaltytastetoyourpool(generally,thesaltwillbegintobetastedatalevelofabout3500-4000ppm).Thesaltinyourpool/spaisconstantlyrecycledandthelossofsaltthroughouttheswimmingseasonshouldbesmall.Thislossisdueprimarilytotheadditionofwaterbecauseofsplashing,backwashing,ordraining(becauseofrain).Saltisnotlostduetoevaporation. TypeofSalttoUseItisimportanttouseonlysodiumchloride(NaCl)saltthatisgreaterthan99%pure.Thisiscommonfoodqualityorwatersoftenersaltandisusuallyavailablein40-80lb.bagslabeled"CoarseSolarSalt".Itisalsoacceptabletousewaterconditioningsaltpellets,however,itwilltakelongerforthemtodissolve.Donotuserocksalt,saltwithyellowprussiateofsoda,saltwithanti-cakingadditives,oriodizedsalt.
HowtoAddorRemoveSaltFornewplasterpools,wait10-14daysbeforeaddingsalttoallowtheplastertocure.Turnthecir-culatingpumponandaddsaltdirectlyintothepool.Brushthesaltaroundtospeedupthedissolvingprocess--donotallowsalttopileuponthebottomofthepool.Runthefilterpumpfor24hourswiththesuctioncomingfromthemaindrain(usepoolvacifthereisnomaindrain)toallowthesalttoevenlydispersethroughoutthepool.Thesaltdisplaymaytake24hourstorespondtothechangeinsaltconcentration.
Theonlywaytolowerthesaltconcentrationistopartiallydrainthepoolandrefillwithfreshwater.
Foroutdoorpools,alwayscheckstabilizer(cyanuricacid),whencheckingsalt.Theselevelswillmostlikelydeclinetogether.Usethechartonpage6todeterminehowmuchstabilizermustbeaddedtoraisethelevelto40ppm.

Ifthecurrent(amps)displayis0.00A,thenthechlorinatorisoperatingnormallybutisintheoffpartofitsnormaloperatingcycle.Simplypresseitherthe“+”or“-“keytostartanewcycle.
TheAquaRiteProperiodicallyreversesthepolarityofthevoltageappliedtothecellinordertoautomaticallycleanoffanycalciumdepositsthatmayhavebuiltuponthecell.Itisimportantthatyoucheckthechlorinatoroperationinbothpolarities.Todothis,presseitherthe“+”or“-“buttonsandthechlorinatorwillturnoff,waitfor15secondsandthenturnonintheoppositepolarity.

Thisistheaverage"SaltLevel"inthepool.Thisvalueiscalculatedovertimeandminimizestheeffectsofspikesordipsthatmaynaturallyoccur.
The“InstantSalt”iscalculatedbasedonthevoltage,current(amps),andwatertemperatureatthecellatthatinstant.Thereareanumberofreasonswhyinstantandaveragesaltreadingsmaydiffer.Someoftheseincludesalthavingjustbeenaddedtothepoolandnotyetthoroughlymixed,calciumbuilduponthecell,andcellaging.
Pressthe"+"buttontoentertheinstantsaltvalueintotheaveragesaltlevel.Theaveragesaltlevelwillusethisnewvalueforitscalculations.
Thecurrentstatusoftheflowswitchisdisplayed.Thereisashortdelaywhentransi-tioningfromflowtono-flowandalongerdelayonthetransitionfromno-flowtoflow.Thedelaytimeisdisplayed.

TheAquaRiteProautomaticallystopsgeneratingwhenthepoolwatertemperaturesdropsbelow50ºF.Thisisusuallynotaproblembecausebacteriaandalgaestopgrowingatthistemperature.YoucanoverridethislowtemperaturecutoffbyusingtheSuperChlorinatefunctionforaday.Preventoverchlorinationduringcoldweather:Checkchlorinelevelsperiodically.Mostpoolsrequirelesschlorineduringcoldweatherandthedesiredoutput%settingshouldbeloweredaccordingly. MaintainingtheAquaRiteProSystemTomaintainmaximumperformance,itisrecommendedthatyouopenandvisuallyinspectthecellevery3monthsoraftercleaningyourfilter.TheAquaRiteProwillremindyoutodothisbydisplay-ingthemessage“Inspect/CleanCell”afterapproximately500hoursofoperation.
TheAquaRiteProelectrolyticcellhasaselfcleaningfeatureincorporatedintotheelectroniccon-trol’slogic.Inmostcasesthisselfcleaningactionwillkeepthecellworkingatoptimumefficiency.Inareaswherewaterishard(highmineralcontent)andinpoolswherethewaterchemistryhasbeenallowedtoget"outofbalance",thecellmayrequireperiodiccleaning.
ServicingandCleaningtheAquaRiteProCellTurnoffpowertotheAquaRiteProbeforeremovingtheelectrolyticcell.Onceremoved,lookinsidethecellandinspectforscaleformation(lightcoloredcrustyorflakydeposits)ontheplatesandforanydebriswhichhaspassedthroughthefilterandcaughtontheplates.Ifnodepositsarevisible,reinstall.Ifdepositsareseen,useahighpressuregardenhoseandtrytoflushthescaleoff.Ifthisisnotsuccessful,useaplasticorwoodtool(donotusemetalasthiswillscratchthecoatingofftheplates)andscrapedepositsoffofplates.Notethatabuilduponthecellindicatesthatthereisanunusuallyhighcalciumlevelinthepool(oldpoolwaterisusuallythecause).Ifthisisnotcorrected,youmaytohavetoperiodicallycleanthecell.Thesimplestwaytoavoidthisistobringthepoolchemistrytotherecommendedlevelsasspecified.
Mild Acid Washing:Useonlyinseverecaseswhereflushingandscrapingwillnotremovethemajorityofdeposits.Toacidwash,turnoffpowertoAquaRitePro.Removecellfrompiping.Inacleanplasticcontainer,mixa4:1solutionofwatertomuriaticacid(onegallonofwatertoonequartofmuriaticacid).ALWAYSADDACIDTOWATER-NEVERADDWATERTOACID.Besuretowearrubberglovesandappropriateeyeprotection.
Thelevelofthesolutioninthecontainershouldjustreachthetopofthecellsothatthewirehar-nesscompartmentisNOTsubmerged.Itmaybehelpfultocoilthewiringbeforeimmersingthecell.Thecellshouldsoakforafewminutesandthenrinsewithahighpressuregardenhose.Ifanydepositsarestillvisible,repeatsoakingandrinsing.Replacecellandinspectagainperiodically.
WinterizingTheAquaRiteProelectrolyticcellandflowdetectionswitchwillbedamagedbyfreezingwaterjustasyourpoolplumbingwould.Inareasofthecountrywhichexperiencesevereorextendedperiodsoffreezingtemperatures,besuretodrainallwaterfromthepump,filter,andsupplyandreturnlinesbeforeanyfreezingconditionsoccur.Theelectroniccontroliscapableofwithstandinganywinterweatherandshouldnotberemoved.

Haywardshallnotberesponsibleforcartage,removal,repairorinstallationlabororanyothersuchcostsincurredinobtainingwarrantyreplacementsorrepair.

5.Problemsresultingfromtampering,accident,abuse,negligence,unauthorizedrepairsoralternations,fire,flood,lightning,freezing,externalwater,degradationofnaturalstoneusedinorimmediatelyadjacenttoapoolorspa,waroractsofGod.
6. Use of a non-genuineHayward replacement salt chlorination cell on anyHayward automation orchlorinationproductwillvoidthewarrantyforthatproduct.
TheexpresslimitedwarrantyaboveconstitutestheentirewarrantyofHaywardPoolProductswithrespecttoitsproductsandisinlieuofallotherwarrantiesexpressedorimplied,includingwarrantiesofmerchant-abilityorfitnessforaparticularpurpose.InnoeventshallHaywardPoolproductsberesponsibleforanyconsequential,specialorincidentaldamagesofanynature.Somestatesdonotallowalimitationonhowlonganimpliedwarrantylasts,ortheexclusionofincidentalorconsequentialdamages,sotheabovelimitationmaynotapplytoyou.Thiswarrantygivesyouspecificlegalrights,andyoumayalsohaveotherrights,whichvaryfromstatetostate.
