Honorable Chief Guest Dr. S.C Joshi, Director, Institute of Wood science and Technology,
Bangalore, Respected Directors of M.S.Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sri
M.R Janakiram and Sri M.R. Kodandaram, Chief Executive Sri S.M Acharya, Heads of Sister
Institutions, Colleagues, our dear and cherished students, both past and present, members of the
Electronic and Print Media, Ladies and Gentlemen!
I am privileged to present the 21st Annual Report of M.S Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and
Commerce, Bangalore. At this moment, we would like to express our gratitude to all great men
and women in the past who rendered tireless and dedicated service to make MSRCASC what it is
today. We remember with gratitude our founder late Dr. M.S Ramaiah whose vision and hard
work laid the foundation for this great institution.
Our honorable Chairman Sri M.R Jayaram has been a tower of strength and we are truly
grateful for his generosity. Our Vice Chairman, Sri. M.R. Seetharam, has stood by us and
advises us on our many endeavors. We record our humble gratitude to him. Our honorable
Secretary of GEF Sri M.R Ramaiah has been a source of encouragement to our institution and
we are grateful to him.
The growth witnessed in our college and the success of all our programmes is in great measure
due to the exemplary and dynamic leadership provided by our honorable Directors
Sri. M.R Janakiram and Sri M.R Kodandaram. We thank them most sincerely for this.
We owe so much to our Chief Executive Sri. S.M Acharya for having touched and influenced
every facet of life at M.S Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce with ease and with
his customary efficiency. We thank him very much.
I congratulate the Vice Principals Mrs. Kanakavalli T.E (Sciences) and Mr. B.S Jayaram
(Commerce & Management), who plan and executive all activities of the college meticulously.
I acknowledge with gratitude the tireless effort made by Mr. Hanumantha Reddy (Manager
Finance, GEF- GS) and Mr. Vishwanath Kulkarni (Manager Academics) and their team for
bringing the college under permanent affiliation in Bangalore University and for systematically
taking care of the daily tasks of the office. The papers for 12B, 2f status of MSRCASC are filed
with UGC and we await this status.
I also thank the deputy superintendents Dr. Rohini Bai, Mr. Ravindranath, Mrs. Geevarathna and
their teams for their sincearity in conducting the Bangalore University examination twice this
academic year.
We are indeed fortunate to have a band of committed, well qualified and efficient Heads of the
departments, Librarians and Committee chair persons. I thank to each one of them for planning
and executing their duties during and beyond college working hours.
A survey was conducted in the beginning of the academic year for our first year degree students.
It clearly revealed that the best students opt for engineering and medical streams and only the
next best come to the portals of Arts, Science and Commerce Colleges. I am extremely thankful
to the dedicated staff members who groom these students and make them what they are today.
Our entire teaching faculty, apart from their regular teaching, pitches in as committee members;
proctors etc and help in mentoring the students. I would like to record my deepest gratitude and
appreciation to all of them.
I sincerely commend the loyal service of our support staff who strives quietly behind scenes to
keep the everyday life of the college going. I thank the services of Mr. Mahesh, Estate Assistant
as he organizes the house keeping. To parents who have committed to our charge, their most
prized possession- children- we thank you for giving us the opportunity to nurture them.
Each and every student of this college is special to us. It is because of you that we are here. As
we congratulate all those who won prizes, we would like to encourage all students to do their
best and wish all of them God‘s abundant blessings in the years to come.
The college has performed creditably and I present here a bird‘s eye view of the activities. The
individual department activities and achievements are listed in the pages following this report.
MSRCASC is accredited with ‗A‘ grade by National Accreditation and Assessment Council
(NAAC)
NAAC has launched a new methodology from April 1st 2012 for grading educational institutions.
NAAC wants to identify intangible qualities in educational institutions- whether the programmes
offered are gender neutral and how environmentally friendly the campuses are. The main thrust
is now on research and innovation in institutions – a broader educational experience for students.
NAAC has sponsored a one day workshop at MSRCASC on April 16th
2013 to discuss this new
methodology which includes curriculum design, teaching-learning process, research,
environment friendly infrastructure, student support, Faculty Development Programme, best
practices and the like.
I. Curriculum Design
MSRCASC is affiliated to Bangalore University and the syllabus prescribed by the university is
followed. However in order to provide enrichment and flexibility, all departments have offered
add on courses to students.
The total number of students in the college is 1985, of this, 1717 are in the under graduate degree
courses (BA, BSc, B.Com, BCA and BBM) and 268 are in the Post graduate Programme (MSc
and MBA).
There are 80 well qualified faculty members, 17 office staff and 25 support staff who cater to the
various needs of the students.
A long cherished dream of having a counselor for the college was made a reality this academic
year. Ms. Arpana Jain joined as counselor to tackle absenteeism in students and counseling for
special needs.
II. Teaching learning process
Our students have performed creditably in the Bangalore University examination. The cover
page shows photographs of our achievers, the department reports present more of staff and
student achievement.
In order to give the students an all-round education, MSRCASC provided the students various
platforms to showcase their talents in sports and cultural activities.
III. Research
Proposals were called by Vision Group on Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka.
Two of our projects were selected in all India level and funds granted for the two projects
production of ―Ethanol from House hold waste‖ & ―Go green with Bio-Diesel preparation of
nature friendly diesel‖.
Faculty Development Programmes were conducted by the college. Staff members and students
have several publications and a detailed list is found under individual department reports.
IV. Student Support
The Placement cell caters to the placement needs of the students and several companies have
honored us with their presence and many final year students are already placed.
The Proctor system was planned and followed up by the Chief proctor Mrs. Malathi Palani. We
appreciate the effort of the committee.
The Annual alumni meet saw a more than 380 number of our old students, their parents and
their children making time and effort to come and fellowship with friends and staff. This year the
Alumni staff members were also invited. The alumni association is headed by Mrs. Asha.
Library is manned by a dedicated group of staff, headed by our very efficient librarian Mr.
Shivakumar.
The cultural committee provides the right platform for bringing out the latent and hidden talents
of our students who have been fostered with great care by a dedicated group of staff members
who form the cultural committee headed by Mrs. Lalitha. Our students did commendably in
many inter-college competitions and brought back several trophies.
V. Institutional Social Responsibility
National Service Scheme, Youth Red Cross and National Cadet Corps camps were conducted at
regular intervals. These uniformed services contribute to the society and to the college in a
responsible manner in various activities.
I am grateful to Mr. Ramakirhsnaiah T.N, programme officer of Youth Red Cross, Lt Shobit B,
in-charge of National Cadet Corps and Mr. Surendra, National Service Scheme officer who
provide opportunities for our students to serve the society.
The Environmental Science department under the leadership of Mrs. Alaknanda Adur caters to
the environmental needs of the college.
Two blood donation camps were conducted. Donating blood to save the lives of injured or sick
people is the social responsibility of everyone. These camps were organized jointly by NSS,
Youth Red Cross and NCC.
Swami Vivekananda‘s 150th Birth anniversary celebrations were conducted on 11
th January
2013. There were several competitions held to inculcate the values preached and practiced by
Swami Vivekananda.
VI. Infrastructure
MSRCASC aims in providing an environment friendly campus to its stake holders. Blocks have
rain water harvesting and bore-wells to cater to our needs. The organic waste produced in the
canteen and juice shop along with the leaves make the raw material for the Biogas plant. This in
future will produce gas equivalent to one cylinder. An energy garden is planned at the entrance
next to Gate 8. It will provide clean air absorbing more carbon-di-oxide and releasing more
oxygen preventing pollution at the junction.
This academic year the II floor of the Devasandra Block of MSRCASC was constructed and this
provides more class rooms, a boys‘ room, a girls‘ room and a recreation room.
The toilet block in the main campus was extended and more toilets are now available.
VII. Best Practices
The IQAC headed by Vice Principal and HOD Electronics department Mrs. Kanakavalli T.E
overseas that the college adopts best practices to ensure best services to students. They monitor
quality in college and take care of the documentation necessary.
During the academic year our motherland has seen vandalism, mind blogging corruption,
hardened hatred and disrespect for value of life. As we go forward, we would believe in the
words of Winston Churchill – ―the task which has been set before us is not above our strength,
its pangs and toils are not beyond our endurance. As long as we have faith in our cause and
unconquerable will to win, victory will not be denied us‖
In closing I record by profound gratitude to God Almighty, for His protection on us. He has led
us thus far and by His grace, we will press forward, knowing that we enjoy the goodwill of you
in our great mission in the tutelage of the leaders of tomorrow.
Submitted Respectfully
